The price of the new Supra has just been announced, and the first-generation Toyota sports car GR 86 was officially released today. On April 5th, Toyota and Subaru held an online launch, the new generation of Toyota GR 86 officially launched, the new car uses a new design style, but still has a lot in common with Subaru BRZ. It is understood that the new car will go on sale in the autumn of 2021.

The previous generation of Toyota 86, as a product in cooperation with Subaru, its appearance and interior are very similar to Subaru BRZ. Judging from the latest release of Toyota GR 86, although it adopts the latest design style in appearance, it still has many similarities with the new BRZ. The front face of the new GR 86 features a large black grille, a blackened headlamp group with a bottom black grille and air intakes on both sides, and the brand logo is placed in the center of the hood. Compared with the new Subaru BRZ, the biggest difference is the forward grille and daytime driving lights, compared with the Toyota GR 86's simpler design.

The overall shape of the tail is also similar to that of BRZ, with black stripes running through the middle of the taillight group, and lights on both sides are surrounded by LED light bands. In terms of body size, the length, width and height of the new car are expected to be 4250/1780/1315mm and wheelbase 2570mm, respectively.

Toyota GR 86 is also inseparable from Subaru BRZ, and there are many similarities in the interior of the two times. However, compared with the previous generation, Toyota GR 86 has a simpler interior design, more linear elements in the control part, a 7-inch LCD screen and a larger central control screen, and the overall layout is still relatively reasonable.

In terms of power, the new car will be equipped with a 2.4 L horizontal opposite four-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 235 horsepower and a peak torque of 250 Nm, which will be matched with a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed manual integrated transmission.

Although Toyota upgrades the GR 86, it actually has limited room to improve its appearance, interior and power compared with the previous generation. Therefore, although it is a new generation of models, it is actually more like a medium-term revamped model. As for why the new generation of GR 86 has limited room for improvement, according to Subaru, "Toyota is underfunded and there is not enough time for research and development."

In the sports car field, Toyota mainly has Supra and GR 86 models, of which Supra announced the price on April 2, the new car launched 2.0T and 3.0T models, the price range is 496000 yuan and 626000 yuan, mainly in the high-end sports car market. The positioning of GR 86 is obviously lower than the former, and its design and product improvement space are more conservative to avoid conflicts with Supra. It is understood that the new car is scheduled to be first launched in Japan in the third quarter of this year, but it is unknown when it will be launched in China.
