Sales of new energy passenger cars in the narrow sense were 163000 in April, up 192.8% from a year earlier and down 12.0% from a month earlier, according to the Federation of passengers. Cumulative sales from January to April were 600000, an increase of 265.6 per cent over the same period last year.
With the diversified development of the new energy passenger car market in April, SAIC and Guangzhou Auto performed relatively well. Car companies with sales of more than 10,000 vehicles included SAIC GM Wuling 30602, Tesla China 25845, BYD 25450, SAIC 13004 passenger vehicles. New car-building forces such as Ulai, ideal, Xiaopeng, Hezhong and Zero also performed well.
According to the new energy vehicle sales list released by the Federation, Wuling Hongguang MINI sold 26592 vehicles in April and topped the list with a cumulative sales of 99090 vehicles from January to April. Some time ago, it was rumored that the new policy would be implemented in Shanghai. New energy vehicles with a length of less than 4.6m and a price of less than 100000 yuan could not get a Shanghai New Energy license. Of course, the people affected are not Hongguang MINIEV, but also BYD, Chery and other car companies, but the content of the new policy has not yet been made public, the news is true or false and the specific content of the policy can only be announced officially.
In second place is still Tesla Model 3, but Model 3 sales fell sharply in April. Tesla's Model 3 sales in April were 6264, up 72.3% from a year earlier and down 75.27% from a month earlier. In addition to Model 3, Model Y sales also fell sharply, with Model Y sales of 5407 vehicles in the month, down 46.73 per cent from the previous month. In terms of overall sales, Tesla sold 25845 vehicles in China in April, compared with 35478 in March, down 27.15% from the previous month.
In April this year, the rights incident at the Shanghai auto show pushed Tesla to the forefront of the storm, and related incidents continued to be exposed, which triggered consumers' concerns about Tesla's products. Judging from the sales volume in April, the auto show rights incident did affect the sales of Tesla Model 3, but whether it is the decisive factor in the sharp decline in Model 3, we need to wait for the data in May and June to further confirm the relationship between the two. As for the decline in Model Y sales, the media reported that the Shanghai superfactory Model Y production line was suspended for two weeks in April to upgrade production line equipment, resulting in fluctuations in sales.
In terms of other models, new energy models with sales of more than 5000 include BYD Han EV, Chery eQ, ideal ONE and Aion S. Ideal ONE is the highest-selling SUV model among the car brands, and its sales have exceeded that of Tesla Model Y. in response to this ideal CEO ideal, the core reason is that Tesla Model Y production line adjustment, so that April sales are less than the ideal ONE, and next month when Tesla's production line adjustment is completed, Model Y will return to the first position.
Among the car brands, in addition to ideal ONE, Naxi V, Ulai ES6 and Xiaopeng P7 also appeared on the list, with April sales of 3846, 3163 and 2995 respectively.
Judging from the list of new energy vehicle sales in April, it can be found that most of the models come from independent brands and new car-building forces, including SAIC GM Wuling, BYD, Chery, Euler, while foreign brands and joint venture brands are relatively few. it is difficult to see other brands except Tesla. This also means that in the world's largest new energy vehicle market, Chinese independent brands still have a certain position and occupy most of the market share, of course, from a single brand point of view, Tesla's brand awareness in the market is much higher than that of other brands.
Generally speaking, the performance of independent brands is better than that of joint venture brands, especially the advantages of the establishment of new energy market segments, which has caused a lot of pressure on joint venture brands. However, brands such as SAIC-Volkswagen and SAIC-GM have made great efforts to lay out in the new energy vehicle market, and the competition in the future will be greater. In addition, due to the supply crisis brought about by chips and the rising price of battery raw materials, there is some pressure on the development of new energy vehicles, and it is expected that there will still be some changes in production and sales in May.
