It is understood that this 1.5T engine will replace the 1.4T engine used in the current domestic models in the future, and the new engine will be applied to many models of Volkswagen and Jetta brands in 2022. In other words, as soon as next year, you can see a brand-new model equipped with Volkswagen EA221 EVO 1.5T engine, but the transmission system still matches the 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Volkswagen's 1.5T engine has attracted much attention mainly because it adopts VTG technology for the first time, that is, variable cross-section turbocharger, which can make the engine form more "thrust" to push the turbine to rotate at low speed, so as to better suppress the turbine lag phenomenon; At high speed, as the exhaust gas pressure increases continuously, the angle of the guide vane is also opened to the maximum to achieve the ideal supercharging effect. In addition, although the power performance of this 1.5T engine is very limited compared to the current 1.4T engine growth space, but fuel economy has a certain improvement.

It is understood that in the future, this 1.5T engine will be launched in high and low power versions, with maximum power of 131 hp and 160 hp respectively. It may correspond to the 1.2T and 1.4T models that replace the current model respectively. At present, the models equipped with 1.4T engine include Golf, Magotan, Sagitar, T-ROC Song Detection, Yue Detection, Shadow Detection, Bora, Jetta VS5, Jetta VS7, etc., so with the mass production of 1.5T engine, the above models will gradually be replaced with brand-new engines.

In fact, as early as 2016, Volkswagen Group released this new generation of EA211 1.5T Evo engine and applied it in overseas markets. However, the domestic EA211 EVO 1.5T engine directly skipped the "first version" with the same output, directly made the second version engine, and started the EA211 1.5T EVO2 engine project at the end of 2020.

From the basic point of view, although the power output of this 1.5T engine is not much higher than that of 1.4T, it still improves the competitiveness of the product. In the future, models including Golf, Sagitar and Magotan may have better market performance after they are equipped with brand-new engines. However, this engine may be Volkswagen's last engine in the field of fuel vehicles. With the rapid development of new energy vehicles, Volkswagen has begun to shift its focus to pure electric vehicles.

According to the data of the association, FAW-Volkswagen sold 159,500 vehicles in April, and the cumulative sales volume from January to April was 718,900 vehicles, among which Bora, Sagitar, Magotan and Tanyue were the main sales models.
