The reason for the recall is that there is a design problem with the software of the vehicle battery control unit within the scope of the recall. When a serious collision accident occurs, the software of the battery control unit can not ensure the rapid discharge of the intermediate circuit in the high voltage vehicle network within the required time. As a result, the high voltage of the vehicle electrical system may be transmitted to the 12V electrical system, resulting in functional damage to the 12V electrical system and its components, resulting in some functions of the vehicle (such as warning lights, vehicle lighting or emergency telephone functions, etc.) can not work properly after the collision, and there are hidden dangers.

In view of the above defects, brilliance BMW Co., Ltd. will upgrade the battery control unit software for vehicles within the recall area free of charge by means of remote software upgrade (OTA). Users can complete the software upgrade without going to the store. For vehicles that cannot be recalled through remote software upgrade (OTA), brilliance BMW will contact users through authorized dealers to upgrade the battery control unit software for vehicles free of charge to eliminate safety risks.

Data show that BMW iX3 officially launched in November 2020, the price is 34.80-387200 yuan, the appearance is based on the BMW X3 design, retaining the BMW family design while adding new energy vehicle elements, such as closed double kidney grille, blue decorative frame and brand-new style wheels. Since it is based on the BMW X3 design, the interior design of the BMW iX3 is consistent with the current X3, with a suspended central control screen, a full LCD dashboard and an electronic handle, and blue decorations are added to the details to show different identities.

In terms of power, the new car is initially equipped with a rear single motor with a maximum power of 286hp, a peak torque of 400N ·m, a battery pack of 74 kWh in Ningde era, and a comprehensive mileage 520km of NEDC.

As the first all-electric car, BMW has high hopes for the iX3, but its sales are mediocre. According to media statistics, the cumulative sales of BMW iX3 from January to April in 2021 is 5001, and the monthly sales are about 1000. Coupled with the sales in 2020, it can be said that this recall is almost all the models sold since its launch.
