AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)06/03 Report--

Half a year later, Toyota once again launched a recall because of defective fuel pumps. Toyota filed a recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration on June 3, involving more than 200000 vehicles.

In terms of models, a total of 191936 partial Corolla cars were produced from August 6, 2019 to April 15, 2021, 25143 partial Hanlanda vehicles were produced from October 13, 2018 to April 9, 2021, and 10905 Lexus RX300 vehicles were partially imported from September 14, 2018 to March 13, 2021.

The reason for the recall is that some of the components are not fully pressed due to the manufacturing deviation in the assembly process of the internal components of the high-pressure fuel pump in the parts production plant. Abnormal wear may occur in the interior of the high-pressure fuel pump during use. Due to the loosening of the internal components, fatigue cracks may occur at the welded joints of the high-pressure fuel pump, and there may be the possibility of fuel leakage, which will increase the risk of fire in extreme cases. There is a safety risk.

In view of the above defects, Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Automobile Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., and Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. will replace the improved high-pressure fuel pump free of charge for the vehicles carrying the above defective parts, in order to eliminate safety risks.

It is worth mentioning that on November 6, 2020, Toyota announced a recall of 401873 defective vehicles in China, of which 232351 were involved in Guangzhou Auto Toyota, including 187495 Camry cars produced from April 24, 2018 to May 24, 2019; and 44856 Henlanda cars produced from December 10, 2018 to July 11, 2019. The reason for the recall is due to defects in the fuel pump impeller.

On January 29, 2021, Toyota once again launched a recall because of defective fuel pumps. In terms of models, it covers 44408 partial Camry vehicles produced between December 7, 2017 and April 23, 2018, and 8592 partial Hanlanda vehicles produced between December 10, 2018 and January 11, 2019; a total of 53000. The reason for the recall is that due to the imperfect resin forming conditions of the supplier in the manufacturing process of the low-pressure fuel pump impeller, the resin density of the impeller is insufficient, and the impeller may be inflated and deformed due to the influence of fuel. Interference with the shell of the low-pressure fuel pump leads to poor operation of the low-pressure fuel pump. In extreme cases, the vehicle may not be able to start normally or the engine is flameout while driving, and there is a safety hidden danger. In view of the above defects, Guangzhou Auto Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. will replace the improved low-pressure fuel pump for vehicles within the recall range free of charge, in order to eliminate safety risks.

Judging from several recalls, all the models involved in the recall may have the problem of assembling defective fuel pumps. The problem of fuel pump may lead to engine flameout during driving, and the driver can not control the vehicle according to his own intention, which is a great hidden danger.

In recent years, a number of Japanese car companies have launched large-scale recalls due to defects in fuel pumps produced by Japanese parts giant Denso. In the domestic market, many Japanese car companies, including Guangzhou Automobile Honda, Dongfeng Honda, FAW Toyota, Guangzhou Automobile Toyota, Changan Mazda, FAW Mazda, Guangzhou Automobile Mitsubishi and so on, all fell into the recall door because of fuel pump defects.

Toyota sold 859000 vehicles worldwide in April, according to relevant data. Of these, China sold 160000 vehicles in April, up 12.2% from a year earlier, while Japan sold 124000 vehicles, up 27.1% from a year earlier. Some analysts believe that frequent recalls and quality problems or affecting the brand image and reputation of Japanese cars will also have a negative impact on their sales. In this regard, Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the Federation of passengers, said that the recall shows that the above-mentioned car companies are improving and optimizing their products, and also shows their positive attitude in solving problems. In this context, its sales volume and brand image will not be greatly affected.
