According to the latest report released by the Federation of passengers on June 8, the retail volume of domestic narrow passenger cars in May 2021 was 1.576 million, down 2.6% from May 2020 and 4.8% from April 2021. From January to April, retail sales of narrow passenger cars totaled 8.054 million, an increase of 42.0% over the same period last year, and the growth rate slowed significantly.

From the narrow passenger car retail sales data released by the Federation of passengers, there are four car companies in the top 10 ranking with a year-on-year decline, and four car companies have a month-on-month decline, with the largest decline of more than double digits.

Judging from the ranking, the top three car companies are still FAW-Volkswagen, SAIC General Motors and SAIC Volkswagen. Among them, FAW-Volkswagen sales of 168000 vehicles, although a 7.7% year-on-year decline, but still lead the domestic passenger car market, sales are much higher than SAIC GM, which ranked second. As a joint venture brand of SAIC Group, SAIC GM led SAIC Volkswagen several times this year. In May, for example, SAIC GM exceeded SAIC Volkswagen with 122000 vehicles, of which SAIC GM increased by 1.3% compared with the same period last year. SAIC-Volkswagen fell 9.9%. However, SAIC-Volkswagen achieved a month-on-month growth of 13.3%, the biggest increase in the top 10 rankings.

Let's take a look at our own brands. Changan Automobile, Geely Automobile and SAIC GM Wuling all appeared on the list, while Great Wall fell out of the top 10. Geely overtook Changan again in May, but its performance was not satisfactory. Geely's retail sales in May were 86000, down 18.9% from a year earlier and 12.2% from a month earlier. According to the data released by Geely, the cumulative sales from January to May was 530000 vehicles, meeting 35% of the annual sales target of 1.53 million vehicles, which means that Geely needs to sell 142900 vehicles a month in the remaining seven months. According to the current state of Geely, the completion rate of the annual sales target is relatively slim.

Although Changan underperformed Geely, sales were still growing, rising 18.9% from a year earlier, down 7.6% from a year earlier to 85000 vehicles, mainly due to hot sales of the CS75 series, Changan Yiyou, CS55 series and UNI series.

SAIC GM Wuling rose 33.5% to 75000 vehicles in May from a year earlier, but fell 11.8% from a month earlier. Most of SAIC GM Wuling's sales come from Wuling Hongguang and Hongguang MINIEV. Earlier, media reported that new energy vehicles with a length of less than 100000 yuan or less than 4.6m will no longer be able to apply for a free new energy "green card" in Shanghai. However, it does not seem to stop the growth of Hongguang's MINIEV, with SAIC GM Wuling new energy retail sales of 33175 vehicles in May, up 8.4 per cent from 30604 in April, according to FIFA data.

The rest are Japanese brands. Dongfeng Nissan retail sales in May were 88000 vehicles, down 16.1% from a year earlier and 13.7% from a month earlier. Dongfeng Nissan mainly depends on the volume of four models: Xuanyi, Teana, Xiaoke and Qijun, of which Xuanyi is the absolute source of sales of Dongfeng Nissan, but it did not perform well this month, down 16.04% from the same period last year and 16.08% from the previous month to 38371 vehicles. As for the upcoming listing of the new Qijun, due to the 1.5T three-cylinder engine, the late market performance is difficult to predict.

FAW Toyota and Guangzhou Automobile Toyota sold 74000 and 72000 vehicles respectively, both achieving year-on-year growth. On June 6, GAC Toyota Ling Shang officially launched two new models with a price range of 14.88-158800 yuan, positioning an A + class sedan with a wheelbase between Leiling and Camry. On the same day, FAW Toyota mid-term revamped Yize IZOA family listed, the price range is 14.58-189800 yuan. As a medium-term revamped model, in addition to the appearance adjustment, the new car also launched a dual-engine model with hybrid system for the first time. It is understood that this year, Guangzhou Auto Toyota brand new Hanlanda, FAW Toyota Crown-Lu Fang and other models will also be on the market this year, or will drive Toyota's sales growth in China.

Only Dongfeng Honda made it into the top 10 this month, with retail sales of 66000 vehicles in May, up 1.2 per cent from a year earlier and 1.5 per cent from a month earlier. Dongfeng Honda CR-V, Civic and XR-V all sell well, basically more than 20, 000 vehicles a month. The monthly sales of Ericsson, UR-V and Yingshi School are basically about 5000 vehicles, while the performance of models such as Hangyu and LIFE is relatively poor.

The above is a list of the top 10 car companies. Overall, the domestic market showed a year-on-year decline in May, partly because the Shanghai auto show and the May Day holiday led the market ahead of time, and secondly, there were fewer legal working days in May compared with April. In addition, due to the recurrence of the epidemic in some parts of the country, as well as the shortage of automotive semiconductor chips, the sales of a number of car companies have declined.
