Hyundai and Kia's production lines of several popular models have been forced to stop production several times because of the shortage of chips. As early as last month, the production lines of Eni Krypton 5 and KONA were suspended due to lack of chips, and Hyundai suspended the production line of PORTER trucks from May 6 to 7. On May 24th, due to a shortage of airbag chips

Hyundai has decided to suspend some factories and Kia is considering suspending production at its US plants. Hyundai Yashan's Yazun and Sonata production lines were also suspended from May 24-26. Hyundai Motor speculates that the production plans for more than 3000 cars will go wrong as a result. In addition, the second production line of Ulsan No. 5 plant, which is responsible for Tusheng and NEXO, was also suspended from May 17-18. Ulsan No. 3, which is in charge of AVANTE (Elantra) and VENUE, also stopped production on May 18th.

Affected by this, a number of Hyundai models have been delayed, but also caused customer dissatisfaction, Hyundai Motor also wrote to customers to apologize for this issue. It is understood that the AVANTE, which usually leaves the warehouse for no more than a month, now has to wait for 10 to 11 weeks, while the new car Eni Krypton 5 pre-sold more than 40, 000 of the more than 114 in April.

Notably, South Korea's Ministry of Land and Transport announced on May 27th that it would recall a total of 714000 defective cars sold by Hyundai, Kia and other automakers in South Korea, according to a CCTV financial report. It is understood that the recall of 714000 vehicles in total four models, involving 222000 Genisys G80, including all vehicles produced between July 10, 2013 and March 9, 2020. In addition, more than 190000 GRANDEUR vehicles manufactured from June 21, 2016 to April 21, 2021 are also recalled. The recalled Kia models include more than 180000 Lion runs produced from March 19, 2015 to October 23, 2020 and 4000 K7 models produced from August 14, 2015 to February 8 this year. The main reason for the recall is the internal short circuit of the electronically controlled hydraulic device in the vehicle braking system, which may cause fire.

The hidden danger of frequent fires and the shortage of car chips are growing, and modern factories have been forced to shut down many times, while new cars have been delayed in delivery. In the face of "internal and external troubles", how should Hyundai break the situation?

According to the latest data from AutoForecast Solutions, due to the continuing impact of the shortage of chips, the cumulative number of cars stopped production worldwide has reached 2.99 million. At the same time, AutoForecast Solutions also predicts that chip problems will continue to ferment, which could eventually lead to the suspension of 4.09 million cars worldwide. Pan Jing, chief analyst at Tianfeng Electronics, also said that as global semiconductor demand continues to rise, supply exceeds demand at least until the end of the year.
