In March 2020, the state announced that it would continue to strongly support the development of the new energy industry, and decided to extend the policy of subsidies and exemption from purchase tax for new energy vehicles for two years to December 31, 2022. According to the relevant data, the number of new energy vehicles in China's market is 4.92 million by the end of 2020. Wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 196000 in May 2021, an increase of 174.2 per cent over the same period last year and 6.7 per cent month-on-month. From January to May in 2021, the production and sales of new energy vehicles were 967000 and 950000 respectively, an increase of 2.2 times over the same period last year. Among them, the production and sales of pure electric vehicles were 818000 and 794000 respectively, an increase of 2.6 times and 2.5 times respectively compared with the same period last year, while the production and sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles completed 149000 and 156000 vehicles respectively, an increase of 1.1 times and 1.3 times respectively. Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the Federation of passengers, predicts that 2.2 million new energy passenger vehicles will be sold this year, and the entire new energy vehicle market may reach 2.5 million.
