AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)06/23 Report--

After entering 2021, the problem of chip shortage continues to intensify, and many automobile companies have announced to stop or reduce production because of chip shortage. Chip shortage has become a major problem in the global automobile industry.

According to foreign media reports, Volkswagen recently responded to earlier media reports that Volkswagen expects production to decline due to a global chip shortage, saying that the global chip shortage will not affect its profit forecast for 2021. In addition, a spokesman for Volkswagen said, "the company still expects the group's operating margin to be between 5.5% and 7% in 2021 and between 3% and 4% for major brands." So far, Volkswagen has significantly limited the negative impact of chip shortages on customers and delivery volume through inventory sales and other measures. "

However, a few days ago, there were media reports that Volkswagen expects to be unable to produce more than 800000 vehicles this year due to a shortage of semiconductors. A Volkswagen spokesman declined to confirm the figure and said it was impossible to reliably predict the impact of semiconductor shortages on production and delivery until the end of the year. And it has previously said that a shortage of chips will reduce the company's production by hundreds of thousands of vehicles.

According to Volkswagen's first-quarter results, affected by the global popularity of Covid-19 and the shortage of semiconductors, Volkswagen Group's car delivery volume increased by 21.2% over last year to 2.4 million vehicles. And the group's operating indicators are better than the same period last year, achieving sales revenue of 62.4 billion euros, operating profit of 4.8 billion euros, pre-tax profit climbed to 4.5 billion euros, after-tax profit also increased to 3.4 billion euros.

Last month, Volkswagen said it expected chip shortages to ease in the third quarter, but the shortage of chips would continue. 木拉提 Aksel, head of procurement for Volkswagen's board of directors, said: "at present, we have reached the lowest point. We are facing the most difficult six weeks. " He estimates that since it will take up to two years to build capacity, there will be a shortfall of about 10 per cent in chip supply in the long run. Aksel revealed that Volkswagen will prepare for supply bottlenecks by expanding its chip storage, and the company is grading the risk of supplying parts for all its models.

Now, as the global chip shortage continues to escalate, the impact of lack of core is becoming more and more serious. In the first quarter of this year, SAIC-Volkswagen has halted production of some models in stages. According to relevant media reports, FAW-Volkswagen originally planned to produce about 610000 vehicles in the second quarter of this year, but due to the shortage of chips, it is expected to produce only 400000 vehicles in the second quarter. At present, only 14 FAW-Volkswagen models can be produced continuously, but in order to make up for the production loss, the 14 models that are not affected will maximize production and give priority to the supply of universal parts to Audi models with higher profits. In addition, the old MQB platform and PQ platform models are less affected by chips, FAW-Volkswagen will speed up the production of the above platform models to make up for production losses.

According to a report by Goldman Sachs, as many as 169 industries around the world are affected by chip shortages to some extent. According to Counterpoint research data, chips are expected to remain in short supply in the future, and chip prices will rise by at least 10-20% in 2022. Pan Jing, chief analyst at Tianfeng Electronics, said that as global demand for semiconductors continues to rise, supply falls short of demand at least until the end of the year.
