AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)06/23 Report--

As early as March this year, German luxury car brand Audi announced that it would stop developing gasoline or diesel engines and would completely shift to the development and production of electric vehicles in 10 to 15 years. According to German media reports, Audi will only launch new models with pure electric power in the global market from 2026, stop producing new gasoline, diesel and hybrid vehicles, but its new models launched before 2026 will continue to be produced and sold. By 2033, Audi is accelerating the transition to electric power, phasing out the production of internal combustion engines and achieving zero emissions by 2050 at the latest.

Audi executives confirmed the report. Audi CEO Markus Duesmann reiterated this goal at the Berlin Climate Conference recently, and Audi will phase out fuel engines by 2033. "Audi is ready to make decisions and make great efforts to move towards the electric car era," Marcus Dusmann said at the Berlin Climate Conference.

It is reported that the replacement A3, A4, A5 and A6 will all turn to electric drive. The A3 and A4 will not be developed with internal combustion engines and will be replaced directly by the A3 e-tron and A4 e-tron in the future. The A5 and A6 next-generation models will also be available in electric-only versions. In April, Audi announced that the new Audi A6 internal-combustion engine version will be available in 2023, along with the A6 e-tron. At this year's Shanghai Auto Show, Audi has showcased the A6 e-tron concept car, which is based on the PPE platform and is the second model of the platform. Audi's first PPE platform based model is the Q6 e-tron, which is expected to launch in the second half of next year. By 2025, Audi aims to have more than 20 electric vehicle models in its lineup.

As for the Audi Q8, a new generation of Audi Q8 will be launched in 2026, which will be the last model of the Audi brand with internal combustion engine, and the Audi Q8 e-tron will be launched at the same time, and the internal combustion engine will continue to be produced until 2032. Audi will accelerate its transition to electrification, phasing out combustion engine models by 2032 and completely stopping production by 2033, with zero emissions by 2050 at the latest.

China will play a key role in Audi's electric development. Although Audi announced that it would stop developing gasoline or diesel engines, the above-mentioned suspension of fuel vehicles does not include the Chinese market. Audi believes that there is still demand for fuel vehicles in the Chinese market and local production will continue after 2033. It is understood that FAW Audi currently owns Q2 e-tron, Q4 e-tron and e-tron three pure electric models. Audi will further deepen its cooperation relationship with FAW and jointly establish a brand-new Audi FAW New Energy Vehicle Company. From 2024 onwards, the new company will start production of Audi pure electric models based on the PPE platform developed in cooperation with Porsche in Changchun. In addition, by the end of 2021, Audi will increase its domestic models to 12 through the joint venture FAW-Volkswagen.

In recent years, new energy has become an industry outlet, many countries have introduced a timetable for banning the sale of fuel vehicles for six consecutive years, and issued relevant policies to support the development of new energy vehicles. Some automobile enterprises have also begun to echo the market and announced that they will soon become pure electric vehicle brands. For example, British luxury brand Jaguar previously announced that it would become an all-electric car brand by 2025 and would only produce and sell electric vehicles. Swedish luxury brand Volvo has announced it will be fully electric by 2030, when it will sell only electric cars.

At present, brands including Tesla, NIO, Xiaopeng and BYD are gradually making efforts in the field of electric vehicles, and sales volume has occupied most of the market share. Under the extremely radical electric development strategy, many traditional automobile enterprises began to accelerate the layout of new energy vehicles, and cross-border vehicle building has also become a big change in the current automobile market.

According to the data of China Automobile Association, the production and sales of new energy vehicles in the first five months of this year were 967,000 and 950,000 respectively, up 224% year-on-year. As of the end of May this year, there are about 5.8 million new energy vehicles in China, accounting for about 50% of the total number of new energy vehicles in the world. Fu Bingfeng, secretary-general of the China Automobile Association, said that the average annual growth rate of sales of new energy vehicles in China in the next five years will be more than 40%, and the proportion of new energy vehicles will increase significantly in 5-8 years, reaching 20%-30%. In the industry, new energy vehicles will show a trend of continuous upward development.
