AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)06/30 Report--

According to foreign media reports, BMW's first electric car will be withdrawn from the market. The US production line responsible for the production of BMW electric car i3 will stop production in July this year and is likely to withdraw from the global market by 2022. In addition, the BMW 3-series pure electric version will use the i3 brand, and when the i3 is discontinued, BMW's iX1 will fill the market gap.

The BMW i3, BMW's first product to enter the pure electric car market, was unveiled in 2013 with a carbon fiber body, opposite doors and ordinary halogen headlights. The front face uses a double-kidney intake grille, and the flat headlamp group echoes with the middle net line. The trunk adopts hatchback design, and the taillight group will adopt the design concept of interior LED display screen. The BMW i3 has 19-inch alloy wheels, front and rear disc brakes and a rear drive structure. The wheelbase of the car reaches 2570mm. The power is driven by pure electric power, and the power of the motor will be transferred to the rear wheels, with a maximum output power of 127 kilowatts and a peak torque of 249 Nm. The maximum mileage will be between 130 and 160 kilometers. In extended range mode, the new car uses a 0.65-liter two-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor to generate electricity and charge, with a range of up to 300 kilometers.

As more and more brands of electric cars grab market share, the BMW i3 has no advantage in terms of mileage or price. To ensure that the i3 remains competitive at the end of its life cycle, BMW increased its battery capacity from 42.2 kilowatt hours to more than 50 kilowatt hours in 2020, compared with 246km for the EPA and 340km for the NEDC. However, i3 sales in the United States are still on a downward trend, with BMW i3 sales reaching 11024 vehicles in 2015 and declining every year since then, according to data. Sales of i3 were 4854 in 2019 and only 1052 in 2020.

According to earlier media reports, the I-series BMW i3 will officially stop production in 2024. If production stops in July as reported by foreign media, it will be nearly 2 years faster than the earlier time. Although it is not known whether the model will stop production this year, it can also be seen that BMW is speeding up its entry into the electric car market.

On June 2nd, BMW launched mass-production models of the iX and i4 at its online launch event, and announced the start of pre-orders, which will begin global delivery in November. Among them, the BMW IX has a total of two models, with a maximum WLTP range of 630km and an acceleration of 4.6 seconds for 100 kilometers. Among them, the high-end version of the model uses a large battery with a capacity of 111.5kWh, which may be the largest battery capacity among the mass-produced pure electric SUV. At the same time, the iX wheelbase reaches 3000mm.

According to earlier media reports, BMW Group plans to offer 12 pure electric models worldwide by 2023, covering about 90% of the market segment. By 2025, the BMW Group will complete the delivery of the 2 millionth pure electric model. In the next decade or so, the group will deliver a total of about 10 million pure electric vehicles worldwide. Jochen Goller, head of BMW's China business, has also said that the company plans to account for 1/4 of its sales in China by 2025.
