On July 5th, BYD released its latest figures, showing that car sales in June were 51152, up 60.12% from a year earlier. BYD's cumulative car sales from January to June were 253900, up 55.51% from a year earlier.
The performance of new energy vehicles continues to maintain an upward trend. Data show that BYD sold 41366 new energy vehicles in June 2021, and the cumulative sales from January to June were 154579, an increase of 154.76% over the same period last year. As for fuel vehicles, sales of fuel vehicles were 9649 in June and 92110 from January to June, down 5.96 per cent from a year earlier.
At present, there are many new energy vehicles on sale under BYD, such as Qin PLUS DM-i, Song PLUS DM-i, Tang DM-i and so on. The increase in sales of BYD's new energy vehicles also played a role. According to relevant data, sales of DM models reached 20100 in June, an increase of 536.7% over the same period last year. Sales of EV models were 20016, an increase of 102% over the same period last year. DM-i model is the main product of DM model. In January this year, BYD released the self-developed "DM-i Super plug-in" system, while announcing the pre-sale of three models, including Qin PLUS DM-i, Song PLUS DM-i and Tang DM-i, which will be officially launched in March and April. According to the feedback from the market, BYD is not short of orders, but after the launch of the DM-i super hybrid model, BYD car orders also rose sharply, resulting in a serious shortage of BYD DM-i.
Earlier, a marketing strategy plan of BYD called "DMI Kunlun Strategy" was exposed, probably to give priority to ensuring the supply of cars in Chongqing, Tianjin, Hunan, Jiangsu, Guangxi and other provinces and cities in the case of insufficient production capacity of DMI models. This marketing strategy plan has also caused strong dissatisfaction among motorists after it was exposed. In response, BYD officially responded that the online "regional campaign market" initiative is only a marketing attempt in some markets. At the same time, it also said that in the next stage, the production capacity will be further expanded while ensuring quality, and an optimized customer order delivery query system will be built at the same time to achieve real-time information tracking of the whole process from customer ordering to car pick-up. However, as can be seen from BYD's official Weibo comments this month, there are still a large number of cyclists urging the delivery of vehicles in the comment area.
With the rapid growth of new energy, the question of whether BYD's fuel cars will stop production has also attracted people's attention. According to an earlier media report that "BYD will stop producing fuel vehicles", the report quoted the minutes of a BYD internal exchange meeting. The minutes of the meeting read: "will all the company's fuel cars be completely replaced and stopped production by DMI and DMP in the future?" BYD said that with 23W fuel vehicles last year, internal sales this year are expected to be about 15W, and plans for future fuel vehicles have been stopped and fully replaced as soon as next year (as long as DMI can produce 8W vehicles per month and ship 4W vehicles per month). This may indicate that BYD will completely stop production of pure fuel vehicles as soon as 2022. In response to the news, BYD responded, "there is no such plan at present, there is demand from the market and consumers, and there is demand from partner dealers."
According to BYD's 2020 financial report, BYD's business mainly includes automobile business, including new energy vehicles and traditional fuel vehicles, mobile phone components and assembly business, secondary rechargeable battery and photovoltaic business. The revenue of these three businesses is 83.993 billion yuan, 60.043 billion yuan and 12.088 billion yuan respectively, accounting for 53.64%, 38.34% and 7.72% of the total revenue respectively. Among them, the automobile sector accounted for the largest proportion of revenue, an increase of 32.67% over 2019.
According to the contents of the BYD car conference call exposed on the Internet a few days ago, BYD aims to sell 400000 new energy vehicles in 2021, of which EV and DM hybrid account for half. In addition, Li Yunfei, general manager of BYD's passenger car brand and public relations department, also said that BYD's new energy sales will surpass Tesla's in June this year, and is expected to become the global champion of new energy vehicles this year. With regard to the plan for the fourth quarter, Li Yunfei, general manager of BYD's public relations department, revealed in an interview with the media that BYD will launch a new high-end brand in the fourth quarter of this year, which will be planned under a new BYD brand. The price range is between 500000 and 800000 yuan.
