According to the latest report released by the Federation of passengers on July 9, sales in the domestic narrow passenger car market in June were 1.575 million, down 5.1% from the same period last year and 3.1% from the previous year. Cumulative sales in the first half of 2021 were 9.943 million, up 28.9% from the same period last year.

Judging from the narrow passenger car manufacturers' retail sales data released by the Federation of passengers, the sales volume of many car companies in the top 15 rankings declined to varying degrees, and six car companies achieved year-on-year growth, of which BYD entered the list for the first time this year.

According to the ranking, the top three car companies are still FAW-Volkswagen, SAIC General Motors and SAIC Volkswagen. Among them, FAW-Volkswagen sold 139000 vehicles, although it is the largest car company in China, but its decline is 22.0%, which is higher than the average decline of the market. As a joint venture brand of SAIC Group, SAIC GM led SAIC Volkswagen several times this year. In June, for example, SAIC GM exceeded SAIC Volkswagen with 114000 vehicles, of which SAIC GM fell 9.9% compared with the same period last year. SAIC-Volkswagen fell 24.4% year-on-year, making it the biggest drop on the list. In terms of sales in the first half of the year, FAW-Volkswagen was the only car company with more than a million vehicles, up 19.8% from a year earlier to 1.026 million vehicles, SAIC Volkswagen ranked second with 713000 vehicles, and SAIC GM ranked third with 700000 vehicles. Judging from the trend, if SAIC Volkswagen's sales continue to be "depressed", SAIC GM's annual sales will not be a problem.

Let's take a look at our own brands. Geely, Changan, Great Wall, SAIC, GM Wuling and BYD all appear on the list. The brightest car company is BYD, with sales of 49000 vehicles in June, up 49.8% from a year earlier, the biggest increase on the list and the first time BYD has made it into the list. BYD was able to squeeze into the list mainly due to the strength of new energy vehicle sales. In June, BYD successfully overtook Tesla to become the highest selling new energy car company in China. BYD Qin PLUS DM-i, BYD Han EV, BYD Song DM, BYD Qin PLUS EV, BYD e2 and other models squeezed into the new energy list, of which BYD Qin PLUS DM-i sales reached 9269.

In terms of other independent brands, Geely overtook Changan Automobile to become the first independent car company in June, down 12.2% from a year earlier to 93000. Changan's June sales fell 3.1 per cent year-on-year to 79000, Great Wall rose 40.9 per cent to 74000 and SAIC GM Wuling rose 16.7 per cent to 67000. In terms of sales volume in the first half of the year, Changan Automobile led Geely Automobile to become the first independent brand, with a year-on-year increase of 64.2% as the biggest increase on the list, Geely Motor up 12.9%, and SAIC GM Wuling up 53.3%. Great Wall Automobile grew 62.5% year-on-year, second only to Changan Automobile, with a cumulative sales volume of 283000 cars in the first half of the year.

In terms of Japanese brands, Dongfeng Nissan mainly depends on the volume of four models: Xuanyi, Teana, Xiaoke and Qijun, of which Xuanyi is the absolute source of Dongfeng Nissan's sales. Dongfeng's daily production and sales in June was 90000, down 19.0% from the same period last year. FAW Toyota and Guangzhou Automobile Toyota sold 65000 and 77000 vehicles respectively, of which Guangzhou Automobile Toyota increased 3.3% year-on-year, while FAW Toyota fell 13.1%. In the first half of the year, Toyota has launched Ling Shang / Asian Lion, new Hanlanda and other models, which will bring Crown-Lufang in the second half of the year. Domestic Sienna and domestic Harrier will also accelerate, which will drive Toyota's sales growth in China in the future. Dongfeng Honda and Guangzhou Auto Honda both fell out of the top 10, with Dongfeng Honda down 14.5% year-on-year to 61000 vehicles and Guangzhou Auto Toyota down 19.0% to 58000 vehicles, mainly relying on Accord, Civic, CR-V, XR-V, colorful Intelligence and other models. In terms of half-year sales, Dongfeng Nissan leads the Toyota / Honda joint venture with 570000 vehicles, with Dongfeng Honda having the biggest growth.

In terms of luxury brands, brilliance BMW sold 62000 vehicles in June, up 3.4% from a year earlier, while Beijing Mercedes-Benz sold 46000 vehicles, down 23.4% from a year earlier. As a member of BBA, Mercedes-Benz and BMW showed a completely different trend in June, with BMW leading Mercedes-Benz by nearly 15000 vehicles, mainly due to continued hot sales of BMW 3-Series, BMW 5-Series and BMW X3. In terms of half-year sales, the gap between Mercedes-Benz and BMW is relatively small, with 341000 for the former and 362000 for the latter.

The above is the list of the top 15 car companies. Overall, the domestic market fell more and rose less in June, which may be affected by the Dragon Boat Festival holiday. In addition, due to the recurrence of the epidemic in some parts of the country, as well as the shortage of automotive semiconductor chips, the sales of a number of car companies have declined. However, from the perspective of sales in the first half of the year, because last year's epidemic led to a low base, car companies have achieved year-on-year growth, so there is little reference for sales in the first half of the year. For automobile companies, the second half of the year is the key moment to really show product competition, and the market competition will continue to intensify.
