On July 9th, two automakers recalled more than 330000 defective vehicles in China because of defective fuel pumps.

FAW-Volkswagen: fuel pump defects can not start or flameout

A few days ago, FAW-Volkswagen Motor Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, and decided to recall the following vehicles from August 6, 2021.

(1) some of the 2020 Jetta MQB and probe cars produced from March 15 to March 27, 2019, totaling 126260; (2) some of the 2020 Jetta VS5 and Jetta VS7 cars produced from July 8, 2019 to March 30, 2020, totaling 73854.

The reason for the recall: the fuel pump of some vehicles within the scope of this recall may have burr residue on the lower shell of the pump core due to the manufacturing reasons of the supplier. The residual burr falling behind may lead to difficult rotation of the impeller and poor operation of the fuel pump. in extreme cases, the vehicle may not be able to start or stall while driving, which may lead to safety risks.

Solution: FAW-Volkswagen Co., Ltd. will replace the improved fuel pump for vehicles within the recall range free of charge to eliminate safety risks. The recall was carried out under the circumstances that the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration launched a defect investigation. Affected by the investigation, FAW-Volkswagen decided to take recall measures to eliminate safety risks.

Volvo: fuel pump fuse risk of fuse or engine shutdown

A few days ago, Volvo Automobile sales (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Daqing Volvo Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. And Zhejiang Haoqing Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration. It is decided to recall a total of 131591 of the following vehicles from now on.

(1) Volvo Automobile sales (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (a total of 18581 imported cars): 1418 V60 cars produced in 2019 from June 19 to December 9, 2019; 1451 V90CC vehicles from November 26 to December 4, 2019; and 2019-2020 XC90 vehicles produced from November 7, 2018 to December 5, 2019, a total of 15658 vehicles A total of 54 XC60 cars from 2019 to 2020 were produced from November 7, 2018 to March 11, 2020.

(2) Daqing Volvo Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (a total of 43896 domestic vehicles): a total of 3347 S60 cars in 2020 produced from June 28, 2018 to December 30, 2019, and a total of 40549 S90 long wheelbase vehicles produced from November 8, 2018 to December 23, 2019.

(3) Zhejiang Haoqing Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (a total of 69114 domestic cars): a total of 69114 XC60 cars of 2019-2020 were produced from November 7, 2018 to March 11, 2020.

Cause of recall: due to design reasons, some vehicles within the scope of this recall may have a peak current when the fuel pressure required for rapid start of the engine has been established and the engine control module requires the fuel pump to stop working. at this time, there is a risk of fuse of 15A fuse of low-pressure fuel pump. Fuse will cause low-pressure fuel pump to stop working, instrument warning message, and cause the engine to stop running, the engine can not start, there are hidden dangers. Among them, the T8 E-driven hybrid vehicle can rely on motor drive to stop safely or continue to drive as long as the battery allows.

Solution: Volvo Automobile sales (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Daqing Volvo Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. And Zhejiang Haoqing Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd., will replace 20A fuel pump fuses for vehicles within the scope of the recall free of charge to eliminate safety risks.
