On the evening of July 24th, GAC MOTOR released his new generation Chuanqi GS8 model. The new car is based on the new GPMA architecture, and unlike the previous generation, the new Chuanqi GS8 uses the star diamond diamond design language, provides two appearance styles for consumers to choose from, and offers two power systems, the fuel version and the hybrid version, which are expected to go on sale in the fourth quarter.

From the appearance point of view, the new Chuanqi GS8 uses the same more square design as the current model, but the difference is that the front face uses a new three-dimensional V-shaped net, with a clear three-stage surrounded shape, the overall shape is still relatively domineering. At the same time, the new car, like other Chuanqi SUV currently on sale, offers two different appearance styles. The biggest difference between the two styles lies in the grille, which are "show power" grille and "dragon scale wing" grille, both of which are very bold and exaggerated, and have good visual effects against the big body. The side lines of the vehicle are still relatively straight, and the suspended roof design is used behind the C-pillar, and the overall shape has a lot of similarities with the cash model. In terms of body size, the new Chuanqi GS8 length, width and height are 4980mm/1950mm/1780mm, wheelbase is 2920mm, length and wheelbase are significantly higher than the current model.

In terms of power, the new car uses hybrid system for the first time, which is equipped with a huge wave power hybrid system composed of Chuanqi 2.0T engine and Toyota THS hybrid system. The maximum power of 2.0T engine is 140kW, the peak torque is 320Nm, and the highest thermal efficiency is 40.23%. The fuel version will be equipped with a 2.0T GDI engine with a maximum power of 185kW and a peak torque of 400Nm. The transmission system will match the Ericsson 8-speed automatic transmission.

At the 2016 Beijing Auto Show, GAC MOTOR officially unveiled the first generation Chuanqi GS8. As GAC MOTOR's flagship model, it broke the ceiling of its own brand, but still attracted the attention of many consumers. According to the data, GAC MOTOR sold 102214 GS8 in 2017, 61773 in 2018, 28096 in 2019 and 19694 in 2020. Although the design of the first generation Chuanqi GS8 is very successful, five years have passed, the aesthetic of consumers is also changing, the design of the current Chuanqi GS8 has lagged behind, and consumers also have more choices in the independent medium-sized SUV market. To this end, GAC MOTOR will launch the second generation Chuanqi GS8 within this year, making changes in appearance, size and power, especially the application of the hybrid system developed with Toyota in power, and its product power will be significantly improved. GAC MOTOR also hopes to regain consumer recognition through such changes.

It is understood that the cash on sale Chuanqi GS8 price of 15.58-262800 yuan, a new generation of models for appearance, configuration, power and other upgrades, there may be some changes in the price. As an independent medium-sized SUV, Chuanqi GS8's competitors mainly include Red Flag HS5, WEY Mocha and Changan UNI-K, while the joint venture models mainly include Volkswagen Touguan L, Volkswagen Mountain Exploration, Hyundai Shengda and so on.
