According to media reports, the DS brand plans to develop two new pure electric SUV models, one for the sedan SUV and the other for the household seven-seat SUV. The new pure electric sedan SUV may be built in the outline of an AeroSportLounge concept car.

DS is a luxury brand of Peugeot Citroen. In 2011, PSA Group and Changan Group established Changan Peugeot Citroen Co., Ltd., the DS brand officially entered China in 2012, and then launched its first model, the DS5, in 2013. However, at the end of 2019, as Changan Peugeot Citroen was sold off by PSA Group and Changan Automobile Group, the two sides listed their 50 per cent stake to Shenzhen Baoneng, and the joint venture was forced to be dissolved after eight years of establishment. The main reason for the dissolution of the joint venture company is related to long-term losses. According to relevant data, Changan PSA lost 1.63 billion yuan in 2016, 1.1 billion yuan in 2017, 874 million yuan in 2018 and 2.233 billion yuan from January to September 2019. In the past four years, the cumulative loss exceeded 5.8 billion yuan.

Earlier, DS officials said that the models of the DS brand will be electrified in 2024, and all of its new cars will be pure electric models. At present, DS has DS3 pure electric models, as well as DS 4 and DS 9 plug-in models. On May 21 this year, DS3, the first pure electric version of the DS brand's pure electric vehicle, launched a total of two models with a price range of 313300 yuan to 333300 yuan. It is understood that the new car positioning small pure electric SUV, based on the fuel version of the model DS3 CROSSBACK built, the future will be imported in the domestic sales.

In August 2020, DS9, a new domestic car under the DS brand, was officially released and started pre-sale. As a flagship model launched by the DS brand in recent years, the DS9 is made in China and supplied around the world. On March 23, DS officially announced the official launch of its new sedan, the DS9, which is based on the EMP3 platform, with a total of seven models, four fuel vehicles and three plug-in hybrid models, with an official price range of 24.99 to 399900 yuan. According to the relevant data, DS9 sales in May were 175, and the cumulative sales from January to May were 236.

However, the products launched by the DS brand in China have launched a total of seven models from 2012 to 2020, but the sales are not good. According to relevant data, the cumulative sales of the DS brand in China in 2019 was 2110 vehicles, down 46.6 per cent from the same period last year. Sales in 2020 were 425, down another 79.90% from 2019. Facts have proved that what the DS brand lacks is not the number of products, but the lack of sufficiently competitive products. At present, although the DS brand has repeatedly stressed that it will not withdraw from China, it is difficult to have more room for development at present. Even if two new pure electric SUV are developed, they will still face great pressure of survival in the future.
