AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)04/18 Report--
Before the 315 evening this year, an online article "they all bought Audi cars, they all have leukemia" spread all over the Internet, but the online discussion soon passed, and at the 18th Shanghai Auto Show on April 16, Audi car odor protection representatives Doudou and Fang Tai once again appeared to protect their rights, but for some reason they were unable to enter the auto show.
On the afternoon of April 18, the China Consumer Association confirmed that the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration had received reports from complainants such as Doudou and had intervened in the investigation, while the General Administration asked the China Consumer Association to cooperate with the communication.
According to Doudou, an activist representative, there are 85 people who claim to be suffering from cancer caused by the odor in Audi cars, as well as more than 3000 complaints about "odor" in Audi cars. According to the information provided by Doudou, among the 85 people, there are 50 patients with blood diseases (34 with leukemia), 5 with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), 4 with liver cancer, 15 with lung cancer and 11 with lung cancer. In terms of vehicle models, among the 85 people, there are 27 owners of Audi Q5, 31 owners of Audi A4L and 8 owners of Audi A3.
In May 2013, activist Doudou bought an Audi A4 made in March 2013 at a Shengsheng Audi 4S store in Yantai, Shandong Province, for commuting, spending at least three hours a day, according to her. She fell ill in the second half of 2017, mainly characterized by skin allergies and tonsillitis. On January 7, 2018, during a comprehensive and systematic examination in Yantai Hospital, she was diagnosed with acute leukemia.
Doudou spent millions of dollars in hospital for more than 4 months, and her condition gradually stabilized after bone marrow transplantation, when Doudou and her family began to suspect an Audi car, and then commissioned different third-party testing agencies on May 25, 2018 and April 5, 2019. The air in the car of Doudou's Audi A4 was tested twice and found that benzene and formaldehyde exceeded the standard. The test report provided by Doudou shows that formaldehyde per cubic meter exceeds the standard by nearly double, while benzene exceeds the standard by more than twice per cubic meter.
As a result, Doudou further strengthened the view that Audi caused cancer, and then embarked on the road of safeguarding rights.
After the outbreak of the incident of "cancer caused by odor in Audi cars", Audi responded that it had no feedback on the disease caused by the smell of Audi cars. With regard to the fact that the online article reflects the smell inside the car, the commissioner said that Audi Q5, A4L and A3 models produced after April 2016 have been upgraded without odor problems. If there is a peculiar smell in the Audi Q5 produced from September 2013 to March 2016, it can be tested and processed at any Audi authorized 4S store in the country.
FAW-Volkswagen Audi headquarters related staff also responded: the company has noticed this, but also regret the experience of these car owners, but the car owners suffering from cancer is not necessarily related to Audi cars.
The source of automobile odor is usually due to the improper use of sound insulation materials or ingredients in the car, and some vehicles will produce more serious odors when they are in use for a period of time or in the case of high temperature. the odor often contains formaldehyde, benzene, and other harmful substances, once these harmful substances exceed the standard, they will cause harm to the human body, or even carcinogenic. The smell of cars is a common problem in many brand models, and there have been numerous complaints about the smell of cars. As early as 2013, CCTV 315 exposed that FAW-Volkswagen used non-environmentally friendly toxic materials in Audi cars.
In March 2017, FAW-Volkswagen also issued a statement on "jointly carrying out service actions to ensure in-vehicle comfort experience". The statement pointed out that Volkswagen Group (China), FAW-Volkswagen Co., Ltd. and SAIC-Volkswagen Automobile Co., Ltd. will jointly carry out service actions aimed at solving the internal odor problems caused by soundproof materials in some vehicles and ensuring the comfortable experience in the car.
In July 2017, Shenzhen Consumer Council commissioned a third-party professional testing agency to evaluate 23 domestic FAW-Volkswagen Audi Q5 cars for odor and excessive formaldehyde. The final results showed that nearly 80% of the testers thought that the odor inside the Audi Q5 was heavy. Even "uncomfortable, seriously uncomfortable, unbearable"; with professional instruments, 23 vehicles detected formaldehyde and other harmful substances. Subsequently, FAW-Volkswagen apologized to the majority of consumers for the trouble caused by the smell problem in the car, and promised to 100% solve the needs of users.
Although the odor problem of Volkswagen Audi has existed for a long time, there has been insufficient evidence to prove that Audi vehicles contain carcinogens that make people sick, and now the State Market Regulatory Administration has intervened in the investigation, waiting for the results of the investigation.
