According to the latest retail sales statistics of the Federation of passengers, sales in the domestic narrow passenger car market reached 1.5 million in July, down 6.2 per cent from a year earlier and 4.9 per cent from the previous month. Of these, car sales were 721000, down 6.6% from the same period last year, 5.9% from the previous month, up 8.8% from the same period last year, and down 3.9% from the previous month. 692000 SUV sales were down 5.5% from the same period last year and 4.0% from the previous year.

According to the list of car / SUV/MPV retail sales published by the passenger Union, most models have declined sharply, and only a few models have achieved growth. Judging from the major lists, the ranking of models has changed relatively greatly.

From the car TOP15 point of view, the joint venture car still occupies a dominant position, Toyota Leiling, Toyota Camry, Nissan Teana have all achieved substantial growth, of which the Camry's increase is as high as 22.0%, better than other joint venture cars and autonomous cars. The joint venture car Buick Xinyinglang fell by 40.2%, while Nissan Xuanyi and Volkswagen Longyi fell by 14.5% and 19.5%, respectively. The performance of autonomous cars is also not optimistic, with Changan Yiyou down 30.1% and Geely Dihao down 20.2%. Of course, the Hongguang MINIEV of independent subcompact cars still exists in general, with sales exceeding that of Lang Yi and Carola, ranking second on the list with a score of 30706 cars. There is a view that Hongguang MINI, as a product with high sales volume and preservation rate, has lowered the threshold for Chinese people to buy cars, but in fact, it is not good for the development of new energy vehicles in China. Hongguang MINIEV continues to sell so well that it creates a low-end image to the market. For example, when it comes to Chery, QQ comes to mind.

In addition, the Elantra from Beijing Hyundai squeezed into the list for the first time, selling 10909 vehicles in July. In October 2020, the seventh generation Elantra officially went on the market, with a price of 9.98-141800 yuan and two kinds of powertrain, 1.5L+CVT and 1.4T+7 speed dual clutch gearbox. At present, Elantra has become the sales responsibility of Beijing Hyundai.

Due to the shortage of chips, Honda XR-V, Volkswagen Touguan L, Nissan Qijun and other models fell off the list, while Honda CR-V, Honda colorful Intelligence, and Nissan Xiaoke also showed a decline in sales, with Honda CR-V ranking sixth with 15263 vehicles. However, sales of SUV in joint ventures such as Toyota RAV4, Honda Haoying, Buick Ankoway and Toyota Weilanda increased significantly, with Honda Haoying up 28.0%, Toyota Willanda up 41.2% and Buick Oncoway up 54.8%.

Compared with the joint venture SUV, independent SUV has more bright spots. There were seven autonomous models on the SUV list in July, the largest number of autonomous models on the list in recent years. In terms of specific models, most of the autonomous SUV can achieve growth, including the Harvard H6 up 14.7% year-on-year to 24476 vehicles, BYD Song to 17012 strides to fourth place, Red Flag HS5, Auchan X7 and Harvard M6 are also squeezed into the list for the first time, of which Red Flag HS5 increased 31.0% year-on-year. However, Red Flag HS5, Auchan X5 and Harvard M6 performed better, but Changan CS75 and Geely Boyue were average, with the former falling 6.0 per cent to 19817 and losing to Toyota RAV4, while the latter fell 5.3 per cent to 13664, ranking eighth. However, judging from the SUV list, autonomous models have performed relatively well this month.

Compared with the car and SUV,MPV market performance is more stable, the top four are still Wuling Hongguang, Buick GL8, Chuanqi M8 and M6. While the MPV list may seem mundane, it is also hidden. Buick GL sales in August remained at more than 10,000 vehicles, while Wuling Hongguang declined for many months, it seems to be only a matter of time before it surpasses Wuling Hongguang. The Chuanqi M8 rose 75.3% this month. Although sales are only about 6000, it is not impossible to sell more than 10,000 a month in the long run. In addition, Chuanqi M6 also soared 32.8%, surpassing Honda Odyssey / Ericsson and other traditional joint ventures such as MPV, and began to encroach on the market share of joint venture MPV.

From July, the decline in sales of most joint venture models was mainly due to a shortage of chips, which led automakers to supply limited chips to higher-margin models, such as Leiling, Camry, RAV4, Ankewei, Haoying and so on. As for independent brand models, due to less affected by chip shortage, joint venture models are affected by the supply of chips, a number of independent models are squeezed into the list.
