According to the "Fire accident Identification letter" issued by the fire brigade, the cause of the fire is determined as follows: the time of the fire is that the fire part is located on the lower left side of the engine, and the point of ignition is the lower left side of the engine in the hood. The cause of the fire excludes the external source of fire, and the cause of the fire does not rule out the failure of electrical circuit and oil circuit. High temperature ignites the fuel to cause fire.

On August 12, brilliance BMW Beijing Branch responded in writing that the company arranged for BMW technical experts to conduct on-site inspection of the vehicle on July 8. According to the combustion trace, the upper part of the engine cabin is lighter than the lower part, and the front part is lighter than the rear part; it is analyzed and judged that the vehicle caught fire while driving, from the discovery of flame to the aggravation of combustion, and the combustion progress is very fast, which is more in line with the characteristics of fire caused by oil leakage.

The written reply said: the mileage of the vehicle at the time of the fire was 160231 km. According to the available maintenance records, the last time the vehicle entered the BMW authorized dealer for standard maintenance and repair was in January 2019. At that time, the mileage was 86560 km, that is, from 86560 km to 160231 km at the time of the accident, and the vehicle did not enter the BMW authorized dealer to carry out standard maintenance and repair. The possibility of the fire caused by the leakage of the oil system to the high temperature components caused by non-standard maintenance or repair cannot be ruled out. In other words, brilliance BMW believes that the cause of the fire is due to the improper maintenance of Ms. Gao.

Screenshots of several "repair statements" and service history details issued by Chongqing Huitong Automobile repair Center provided by Ms. Gao to thepaper.cn show that the most recent maintenance was on May 11 this year, with a mileage of 154739 kilometers; the last maintenance was on January 19 this year, and the mileage during maintenance was 145215 kilometers. Ms. Gao said, "from 2019 to before the fire, I did maintenance in a regular store, and every maintenance or repair was recorded. BMW replied in this way, shirking its responsibility." On August 23, the staff of the dealer Chongqing Zhongshengzhibao Automobile sales and Service Co., Ltd. responded to the media that consumers were dissatisfied with the manufacturer's conclusion and suggested that consumers should protect their own rights and interests through judicial channels.
