According to the statistics of the car quality Network, 9624 valid complaints from car owners were accepted in August 2021, down about 1.3% from the previous month and 4.8% from the same period last year. On the whole, most of the top 10 models on the list come from joint venture brands, but the performance of independent brands is not good, with Changan UNI-T, Guangzhou Automobile Aion S and other models in the forefront of complaints.

In terms of vehicle models, the model with the highest number of complaints in August was Changan UNI-T, ending the history of FAW-Volkswagen mountain exploration. For the first time in history, the car topped the monthly complaint list, with a total of 199 complaints in that month, making it the only model with more than 100 complaints.

It is understood that Changan UNI-T officially launched in June 2020, is the first model of Changan UNI series, the official guiding price is 11.39-133900 yuan. As a brand-new model, Changan UNI-T has become a popular model under Changan Automobile with its novel design language and brand-new Blue Whale Power. However, the number of complaints against Changan UNI-T has soared in the past month, and the main complaints include audio-visual system failures, transmission setbacks, abnormal noise in the center console, sales fraud and publicity, among which audio-visual system failures and transmission failures are at the top.

Some car owners complained that the following problems occurred in the purchase of the Changan UNI-T in July 2020: the abnormal noise of the car body, especially the central control and B-pillar; oil leakage in the gearbox is a problem encountered by many riders; and the car machine system stutter, several updates did not change very fast, the sound automatically disappeared.

In addition to Changan UNI-T, independent models Guangzhou Auto Aion S and BYD Song PLUS New Energy also appear on the list. The number of complaints against GAC Aion S this month is 90. The main complaint problem is that the mileage is not correct. Car owners complain that the actual mileage and driving range are seriously inconsistent with manufacturers and dealers for more than a year. Guanxuan can only run about 260km for 510km. Song PLUS New Energy was complained by car owners because it failed to deliver on its promise. According to the feedback of car owners, the pick-up time sold to BYD can not be cashed in the case of insufficient production capacity.

Toyota has four models on the list, including the iA5, Leiling and Corolla in the top 10, with a sharp increase in iA5 complaints due to reduced power and battery life due to the upgrade of the system. Earlier, a letter about Guangzhou Auto Toyota iA5 owners sending a report to the quality Development Bureau of the State Administration of Market Supervision circulated on the Internet. The report letter is as follows: from July 18 to 23, 2021, Guangzhou Auto Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. upgraded the battery management system BMS through background OTA for a large number of Guangzhou Automobile Toyota iA5 models produced before June 2020 without informing customers and with their permission, artificially reducing the available capacity of the car's power battery (locking power) and limiting the vehicle output power to no more than 60 percent (locking power).

As a pure electric vehicle owned by GAC Toyota, the GAC Toyota iA5 has been in a state of dismal sales since its launch in the Chinese car market. According to public data, GAC Toyota sold 6829 iA5 units in 2020 and 3214 units from January to July 2021. Sales are in the doldrums, and in this context, a large number of car owners have complained about the decline in mileage and power, but at present, the authorities have not given a reasonable solution to the relevant complaints, which undoubtedly has a negative impact on the products and car owners.

The above are several models with a high number of complaints in the first half of the year. The list reveals some problems in product quality control and provides some reference value for consumers to buy cars to a certain extent. Judging from the list, the performance of independent brands in August was worrying, with complaints focused on services such as sales promotion.
