Honda China, one of the Japanese carmakers, was the first to report August sales. Data show that Honda's terminal car sales in China in August 2021 were 91694, down 38.3% from a year earlier. Among them, Guangzhou Auto Honda was 52451, down 26.27% from the same period last year; Dongfeng Honda was 39243, down 49.36% from the same period last year; in addition, Honda's cumulative terminal car sales in China from January to August of 2021 were 986366, up 9.9% from the same period last year. Among them, Guangzhou Auto Honda was 479105, up 5.21% from the same period last year, and Dongfeng Honda was 507261, up 14.78% from the same period last year.

Judging from Honda's August sales figures, sales declined significantly from July 2021 to August 2020, which also means that Honda's "lack of core" is becoming more and more serious. Judging from the two joint ventures, Guangzhou Auto Honda can still reach 52000 vehicles, while Dongfeng Honda has only 39000, halving from the same period last year, which means that Dongfeng Honda's "core deficiency" is even more serious. In terms of annual sales, Honda's terminal sales in China still grew by 9.9% year-on-year due to the epidemic in 2020, but Honda's sales growth in China is shrinking significantly because of a shortage of chips. it fell from 19.5% in January-July in 2021 to 9.9% in January-August 2021, and Honda sales are more likely to decline in 2021 as the chip shortage continues to intensify.

Honda did not report sales of specific products because of its less optimistic performance in August. According to the retail sales announced by the Federation of passengers, the only products on the list are SUV Haoying, CR-V, colorful Intelligence, MPV Odyssey, Ericsson, Civic, Accord, Feido and other models. Based on Honda's market performance in August, the market performance of best-selling models such as Haoying, CR-V, Rizhi and XR-V may not be optimistic.

In fact, as one of the Japanese car companies, Honda was relatively mediocre during the year compared with Toyota and Nissan. Take Toyota as an example, Toyota has launched Ling Shang, Asian Lion, the fourth generation Hanlanda, Crown-Lufang and other brand-new models, and the first MPV Sena will be launched in the second half of the year. Harrier and FAW Toyota Sienna are also speeding up the layout. Compared with Honda, there were no blockbuster models on the market this year, and there was no time for the new generation Civic to go on sale. In the case of chip shortage and no new product planning, GAC Honda is directly absent from the Chengdu Auto Show.

At present, since most of the chips need to be imported and the epidemic in overseas markets is still at risk of spreading, there is no guarantee that the virus will not suddenly stop some factories in a certain place, or even paralyze the supply system of the entire region. in such a bad environment, the global semiconductor supply chain continues to affect the production and sales of global car companies.

The automobile industry believes that the shortage of semiconductors will not end in the short term. Market analyst IHS Makit predicts that the shortage of automotive semiconductors will continue into the second quarter of 2022. As a result, while abandoning some car systems and mobilizing extremely weak measures to concentrate semiconductors on popular models with strong demand, global sales in 2022 are expected to be the weakest on record.
