AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)09/05 Report--

Recently, foreign new energy vehicle media released global new energy vehicle sales data in July 2021. It is important to note that this data counts electric products, including pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. According to the data, the global electric vehicle market sold 480506 vehicles in July, accounting for 7.1 per cent of the global car market that month, of which 318000 were pure electric vehicles, accounting for 66 per cent of global electric vehicle sales and 4.7 per cent of the global car market.

According to the published list, the top three of global electric car sales remained unchanged in July, while Wuling Hongguang MINIEV continued to win the top spot with a record of 30706 vehicles. Both the second and third places came from Tesla, including 18811 Model 3 and 14660 Model Y. It is important to note that the Model 3 beat the Model Y in July, and the two models are now sold in almost the same market, and it will take time to see whether the Model 3 can continue to surpass the Model Y.

Among the best-selling electric models announced in TOP 20, Chinese brand electric vehicles occupy 11 seats. In addition to the No. 1 Hongguang MINIEV, including BYD Qin PLUS PHEV, Changan Mercedes-Benz EV, ideal ONE, BYD Song Pro PHEV, BYD Han EV, Xiaopeng P7 and so on, BYD Qin PLUS PHEV ranked fifth with 9127, Changan Mercedes-Benz EV ranked sixth with 8701, and ideal ONE ranked seventh with 8589. BYD Song Pro PHEV ranked ninth with 7090 vehicles.

As for overseas electric vehicles, Volkswagen sold more than 10,000 ID.4 vehicles, ranking fourth with 10654 and Volkswagen ID.3 with 5518. Ford Mustang Mach-E and Hyundai Ioniq 5 both made it into the top 10, while Jeep Wrangler PHEV from FCA jumped to No. 8 with sales of 7275 vehicles.

Let's take a look at the list of global electric car sales in July, the biggest improvement is the Chinese brand electric car. According to the list, the top seller still comes from Tesla's Model 3 model, with global sales of 262557 vehicles in the previous July, while Model Y ranked third with 153062 vehicles, with two models accounting for 13.6 per cent of the global electric vehicle market.

As the Chinese market with the largest share of electric vehicles in the world, Hongguang MINIEV ranks second with 212516 vehicles, with a gap of 50, 000 vehicles compared with the No. 1 Model 3. Of course, even if Hongguang MINIEV sells well, Tesla, as a global brand, does not rely solely on the Chinese market, so it is unlikely that Hongguang MINIEV will overtake Model 3 this year.

In addition to Hongguang MINI, other Chinese electric cars are also doing well. For example, Changan Mercedes-Benz EV jumped six places to seventh place with 38743 vehicles, and ideal ONE also climbed five places to sixth place, only 6000 cars behind the fifth Biadihan EV. In addition, BYD Qin PLUS PHEV also squeezed into the list, based on the surge in sales in recent months, is expected to soon be able to squeeze into the top 10.

According to the global brand sales list in July, BYD topped the list with 46938 vehicles in July, beating Tesla for the first time in six months. With the successive delivery of BYD's DMi models and the recovery of production capacity, although BYD cannot be guaranteed to win the top global electric car sales in August, it puts great pressure on Tesla to a certain extent. As a new car-building force, ideal and Xiaopeng are both on the list, currently ranked 18th and 20th, respectively, while NIO ranks 21st, with a gap of only 100 cars with Xiaopeng. In terms of cumulative sales in the previous July, the top three car companies were Tesla, SAIC GM Wuling and BYD, of which BYD beat Volkswagen in third place and is expected to beat SAIC GM Wuling in October to win the annual runner-up.
