Decided to recall some imported BMW 116i, 118i, 120i, 125i, 218i, 220i, 320i, 325i, 328i, 330i, 340i, 420i, 428i, 430i, 435i, 440i, M135i, M2, M235i, M3, M4 and ActiveHybrid 3 vehicles produced during the period from September 7, 2011 to April 30, 2016, a total of 142754 vehicles. Due to the supply of spare parts, the recall of 3-series vehicles will begin on September 6, 2021, and the recall of other models will begin on October 29, 2021.
The reason for the recall is that due to the fluctuation of the fuel tank manufacturing process and the lack of design fault tolerance of the vehicle within the recall scope, it may cause the processing cover plate on the upper part of the fuel tank to crack after being used for a period of time, resulting in fuel leakage when the vehicle is filled with fuel. There is a safety risk.
In view of the above defects, BMW (China) Automobile Trading Co., Ltd. will use a special tool (leak detector) to test the pressure loss of the fuel tank and replace the fuel tank that failed the test free of charge. to eliminate safety risks.
Emergency measures: before being recalled and overhauled, it is recommended that the owner of the car should not exceed the fuel gauge 3x4 when filling the fuel, so as not to increase the load of the fuel tank and cause damage. If you smell fuel inside the car or observe a fuel leak outside the car, you should contact an authorized BMW dealer for repair as soon as possible.
It is worth mentioning that the recall was carried out in the context of the defect investigation initiated by the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration. Affected by the investigation, BMW (China) Automobile Trading Co., Ltd. decided to take recall measures to eliminate safety risks.
Prior to this, brilliance BMW also recalled the BMW 3 Series in bulk because of the same failure. In January 2018, brilliance BMW issued a recall plan and decided to recall some brilliance BMW 316i, 316 Li, 320i, 320Li, 328i, 328Li and 335Li vehicles produced during the period from September 1, 2015 to October 31, 2015, totaling 16504.
In December 2019, brilliance BMW expanded the recall and decided to recall some of the brilliance BMW 316i, 316Li, 318i, 318Li, 320i, 320Li, 328i, 328Li, 330i, 330Li and 335Li vehicles produced during the period from April 22, 2011 to July 31, 2016, totaling 312281.
(I) A total of 150951 vehicles with production dates from 22 April 2011 to 30 April 2013, 2 December 2013 to 29 April 2014 and 6 October 2014 to 29 May 2015 will be recalled since 27 December 2019.
(II) starting from May 29, 2020, the recall date is from May 1, 2013 to November 30, 2013, May 1, 2014 to September 5, 2014, June 1, 2015 to August 31, 2015, and November 2, 2015 to July 31, 2016. a total of 161330 vehicles.
According to the recall announcement, the products involved are mainly imported and domestic models from 2011 to 2016. In fact, many car owners reported that there was a fuel tank leak in the BMW 3-Series, but the manufacturer remained unresolved, and eventually recalled and expanded the recall of BMW 3-Series cars under the investigation of the regulatory authorities.
