AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)09/07 Report--
As of Sept. 7, Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Mazda have all announced their latest monthly sales. According to the list, affected by the shortage of chips, sales of all four Japanese car companies showed double-digit year-on-year declines, with Honda the most serious, with a drop of 38.3% and Mazda by 27.7%.
Honda's sales were not optimistic, falling by 38.3%. According to data released by Honda China, Honda terminal car sales fell 38.3% year-on-year to 91694 vehicles in August 2021, with Guangzhou Auto Honda falling 26.27% to 52451 and Dongfeng Honda down 49.36% to 39243. Honda China said it was "affected by the COVID-19 epidemic and tight supply of spare parts" for the reasons for the decline in sales.
Due to the shortage of chips, the terminal market is in short supply, and the sales of automakers have plummeted, making it difficult for consumers to pick up cars. According to the July retail sales released by the Federation of passengers, there are only three SUV models on the list, such as Haoying, CR-V and colorful Intelligence, while Civic, Accord and Feido models continue to catch fire. Therefore, based on Honda's market performance in August, the sales of Haoying, CR-V and colorful Intelligence models may decline further.
Judging from the list, Nissan's performance in china in august was relatively stable, with a 10.6% decline lower than that of other Japanese carmakers. Nissan sales fell 10.6 per cent to 113166 vehicles in August 2021 from a year earlier, while sales of Dongfeng Nissan (including Nissan / Qichen) fell 9.1 per cent to 95826 vehicles, according to the data. In the passenger car market alone, Dongfeng Nissan sells more than Guangzhou Auto Honda and Dongfeng Honda combined.
Dongfeng Nissan mainly relies on Xuanyi, Teana, Xiaoke and Qijun to maintain market stability. Among them, Dongfeng Nissan officially launched a new generation of Qijun on July 30, with a price range of 181900 yuan to 262900 yuan, matched with a 1.5T three-cylinder engine and a CVT gearbox. Judging from the data, the new generation of Qijun sold 9228 vehicles in the first month. In terms of monthly sales, Xinqijun's sales performance was moderate in August, but as a three-cylinder model, it was not bad to achieve 9228 in the first month. However, as the new car will not be officially available until July 30, dealers will shop a large number of goods in August, and the manufacturers will announce wholesale sales, so the first-month sales are of little reference value.
Let's take a look at Mazda. As a Japanese car company that has been born for a century, Mazda is far less famous in China than Toyota, Honda and Nissan. Sales of Mazda fell 27.7 per cent year-on-year to 12528 vehicles in August 2021, with FAW Mazda falling 25.4 per cent to 3738 and Changan Mazda down 28.6 per cent to 8790, according to data released on Mazda's Chinese website.
At present, the main products sold by Mazda in China are Onksera, Atez, CX-4, CX-5, CX-8 and CX- 30 models, of which Anksera is the main selling product. Figures show that Onksera sold 5846 vehicles in August, compared with 2046 for CX-4 and 1727 for CX-5.
It is worth mentioning that Changan Mazda will be the only joint venture company left in China in the future. On August 17, the simple case of operator concentration in the Anti-Monopoly Bureau of the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration showed that Changan Mazda Automobile Co., Ltd. submitted an application for Changan Mazda Automobile Co., Ltd. to acquire the equity of FAW Mazda Automobile sales Co., Ltd. after the proposed transaction is completed, FAW Mazda will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Changan Mazda. On August 24, Changan Automobile, Mazda Motor and China FAW issued a joint statement on the Changan Mazda capital increase project. According to the content, (new) Changan Mazda will be changed to a joint venture jointly funded by three parties, with Changan Automobile, Mazda and FAW holding 47.5%, 47.5% and 5% respectively. On August 30, FAW Mazda officially released the last tweet, officially announcing that it had withdrawn from the stage of Chinese automobile history.
According to the available information, after FAW Mazda is merged into Changan Mazda, its dealers will also merge, that is, FAW Mazda dealers will sell FAW Mazda and Changan Mazda products, product sales and after-sale products will not be affected. At the product level, as China FAW has its own intellectual property rights to CX-4, after the merger of North and South Mazda, CX-4 will be incorporated into FAW Pentium network sales to redesign the appearance, interior and power. As for the Atez, as a classic model, will be introduced into Changan Mazda, next year is expected to launch a replacement model.
Finally, let's take a look at Toyota. Due to the shortage of chips, Toyota's sales in China have also declined. Toyota's car sales in China fell 11.9 per cent in August from a year earlier to 144800 vehicles, according to the data. Since the end of last year, the supply of semiconductor chips has been affecting the production planning of vehicle manufacturers. Today, the problem of core shortage is still becoming more and more serious. Toyota officially announced on August 19th that global production would fall from 900000 planned to 540000 in September (about 140000 in Japan and 220000 overseas) due to a shortage of spare parts caused by the epidemic. However, Toyota said the temporary shutdown would not affect production plans for the whole year.
Judging from the sales of four Japanese car companies in August, Toyota, Honda and Nissan all affected their sales due to the shortage of parts, of which Honda was the most serious. As for Mazda, because its size is much lower than the above three car companies, and Mazda's sales have fallen sharply, compared with the decline in sales caused by the shortage of chips, a more reasonable explanation is the development of the brand itself.
