According to the latest retail sales data of the Passenger Association, the sales volume of narrow passenger cars in China reached 1.451 million vehicles in August, down 14.8% year-on-year and 3.4% month-on-month; the cumulative sales volume from January to August was 12.899 million vehicles, up 17.1% year-on-year. Among them, the sales volume of cars was 734,000, down 10.7% year-on-year and up 1.8% month-on-month; the sales volume of MPVs was 77,000, down 22.1% year-on-year and down 11.6% month-on-month; and the sales volume of SUVs was 640,000, down 18.3% year-on-year and down 7.8% month-on-month.

According to the car/SUV/MPV retail sales list released by the association in August, most models in the car and MPV list have fallen sharply, and only a few models in the SUV list have grown. From each big list, the ranking of models has changed greatly, many models listed in July fell out of the top 15 in August.

From the car TOP15 point of view, Nissan Xuanyi and Volkswagen Lavida ranked first and second in the list. Although the joint venture sedan still dominated in August, due to the lack of core, Toyota Rayling fell 37.2% year-on-year in July, Toyota Camry fell 20.4% year-on-year in July, but Nissan New Teana became the black horse on the list, up 28.5%. The autonomous model Hongguang MINIEV maintained good market performance this month, with sales of 32847 vehicles, up 259.0% year-on-year. This performance is the best in the car rankings. Buick, a joint-venture sedan, sold 16393 units in August, down 38.7% year-on-year. The performance of autonomous cars is not optimistic, among which Chang 'an Yidong fell out of the top 15 cars list, Geely Dihao August sales of 14359 vehicles, a year-on-year drop of 31.5%. In addition, Elantra, from Beijing Hyundai, entered the list for the first time in July and fell out of the top 15 again in August. Due to the shortage of chips, Audi A6, Santana, New Bora and other models fell out of the list. It is worth noting that BYD PULS DM-i squeezed into the list, selling 12574 units in August.

SUV sales in August Honda Binzhi, Buick Oncorway and other models fell out of the list, while Honda CR-V, Honda XR-V, Honda Haoying, Nissan Xiaoke although still in the list but sales also declined, among which Honda CR-V August sales of 10282 vehicles, a year-on-year drop of 51.1%. Honda XR-V sold 11340 vehicles in August, down 29.2% year-on-year. Nissan sold 13349 vehicles in August, down 5.1% year-on-year. Honda Haoying sold 10975 vehicles in August, down 16.3% year-on-year. Toyota RAV4, Toyota Weilanda and other joint venture SUV sales achieved a large increase, Toyota RAV4 August sales of 14551 vehicles, up 21.6% year-on-year. Toyota Weilanda sold 10906 vehicles in August, up 48.3% year-on-year.

Autonomous SUVs perform better than joint venture SUVs. In the SUV list in August, most of the autonomous SUVs achieved growth, but sales of the "National God Car" Haval H6 plummeted, with sales of 17391 vehicles in August, down 32.9% year-on-year. BYD Song moved to No.2 with 16891 vehicles. Hongqi HS5 and Auchan X5 continued to remain in the list, among which Hongqi HS5 sold 13459 vehicles in August, up 44.5% year-on-year. Auchan X5 sold 10712 units in August. Changan CS75 and Geely Boyue are still in the list, but both of them have a downward trend, the former fell 32.9% year-on-year, August sales were 14690, the latter fell 13.4% year-on-year, August sales were 15612, ranking third. In August, Tesla Model Y entered the list with 11576 vehicles in August. According to the SUV sales list in August, autonomous models performed well this month.

MPV model list, compared with cars and SUV, MPV market performance is relatively stable, the top three are still Wuling Hongguang, Buick GL8, Chuanqi M8. Although the MPV list seems ordinary, it is also hidden. Buick GL8, which has remained stable, saw sales fall 36.2% year-on-year in August to 10962 units. Wuling Hongguang continued to decline in August, down 19.8% year-on-year, with sales of 18342 vehicles in August. Sales of Chuanqi M8 rose 33.2% year-on-year this month, with sales of 4637 vehicles in August, while sales of Chuanqi M6 fell 4.3% year-on-year to 3392 vehicles in August. Mercedes-Benz V-Class, Wei Ran fell out of August MPV sales top 15 ranking. Although Ouno and Jiaji squeezed into the list, their sales fell year-on-year. Ouno sold 1403 vehicles in August, down 7.3% year-on-year. Jiaji August sales 1319, Year-on-year drop of 61.2%.

According to the list of models in August, the sales volume of most models declined, which may be related to the shortage of chips, or may be related to the imminent replacement of new cars and brand development strategy. Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the association, said that August is the preparatory period for the layout of autumn and winter products by automobile enterprises, and also the beginning of the sales peak season. However, due to epidemic situation, chip shortage and other reasons, the production end and supply end are seriously affected.
