AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)09/21 Report--
On September 20, ideal Automobile issued an announcement through its official website to adjust its delivery outlook for the third quarter of 2021. According to the announcement, due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic in Malaysia, the special chip factory used by the millimeter wave radar supplier of ideal car has seriously reduced production. And the recovery of chip supply was less than expected, and the company now expects 24500 vehicles to be delivered in the third quarter of 2021, down from its previous forecast of 25000-26000 vehicles. The company will continue to monitor ongoing market conditions and work closely with its supply chain partners to minimize the impact of chip shortages on production.
Regarding this news, the ideal company insider disclosed that the chip which is mainly affected by the supply this time is the millimeter wave radar used by the ideal car, its supplier is Bosch. In the fifth generation millimeter wave radar provided by Bosch, one of the core dedicated chips is affected. At present, the vehicles sold on the market and those using Bosch's fifth-generation millimeter wave radar will be affected.
According to earlier media reports, executives of a number of automobile companies have said that due to the impact of the epidemic in Malaysia, the current black market price of Bosch ESP chips is 4000 yuan per chip, but under normal supply conditions, Bosch ESP chips only need 13 yuan per chip, and the black market price is nearly 300 times higher than the normal price. It is understood that the black market price of Bosch ESP chips has continued to rise since August, with a price of 1500 yuan at the beginning of August, 2500 yuan in mid-August, and about 4000 yuan at present. In addition, Bosch China, as the world's largest auto parts supplier, accounts for about 70 per cent of the market share of China's auto ESP systems. Its semiconductor supplier's Malaysian Muar plant was shut down in August due to the Malaysian epidemic. Bosch ESP/IPB, VCU, TCU and other chips have also been directly affected and have been largely cut off since August.
On August 17, Xu Daquan, executive vice president of Bosch (China) Investment Co., Ltd., also posted through moments: "I have just been informed that the Malaysian Muar factory of a semiconductor chip supplier was closed last night until August 21 because of the new epidemic, following the closure of the factory a few weeks ago. Bosch ESP/IPB, VCU, TCU and other chips will be directly affected. It is expected that the supply will be cut off in August, which will have a great impact on the domestic automobile industry.
According to relevant data, a total of 9433 ideal cars were delivered in August, and the total delivery volume from January to August in 2021 was 48176. According to the monthly data, the ideal car delivery volume is another record, delivering more than 9000 vehicles for the first time. In August, Lulai delivered a total of 5880 new cars, of which ES8, ES6 and EC6 delivered 1738, 2342 and 1800 respectively. With regard to the large fluctuations in sales of NIO Motors this month, NIO said that the supply of individual parts and components in NIO was limited mainly by the epidemic in Malaysia, Nanjing and other places, especially at the production end of ES6 and EC6, thus affecting the delivery of new cars in August. Due to supply chain constraints, Xilai also adjusted its delivery outlook for the third quarter of 2021 to 22500 to 23500 vehicles.
It is not difficult to see that with the capacity crisis encountered in the global semiconductor industry, various industries have suffered a lack of core, among which the automotive chip market is particularly serious, and the production and product supply and sales of many car companies have been affected. According to an earlier forecast released by HIS, the number of light vehicles reduced due to chip shortages reached 672000 in the first quarter of 2021 and increased to 1.3 million in the second quarter. This also means that the problem of lack of core will continue to affect the automobile industry for some time in the future.
