AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)09/23 Report--
Recently, Toyota President Akio Toyoda, along with Honda, Yamaha, Isuzu and other executives, issued a warning at a recent regular meeting of the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association. He said that the Japanese government's goal of reducing Japan's greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutralization by promoting pure electric vehicles by 2050 is unrealistic and will deal a devastating blow to the Japanese economy.
Mr Toyoda said manufacturing was the lifeblood of Japan's economy. Japan is an export-dependent country, and Japanese carmakers produce about 10 million cars a year at home, half of which are exported. By 2030, about 8 million cars equipped with internal combustion engines will be produced by Japanese factories each year, including traditional fuel vehicles and hybrid cars. If the government shifts directly to pure electric cars, it will also mean the loss of 8 million cars a year, which will deal a severe blow to carmakers and will force them to make the difficult choice of shutting down diesel locomotives altogether or moving production overseas. The operation will also affect 5.5 million auto jobs in Japan, most of whom will lose their jobs as a result. In addition, Akio Toyoda believes that the hasty transition to pure electric power will weaken Japan's industrial base and should adopt a more flexible approach that can be adapted to local conditions. As long as we can achieve energy conservation and emission reduction, we should have more freedom to take what technological route we should take. After all, our enemy is carbon dioxide, not internal combustion engines.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time Akio Toyoda has shelled an all-electric car. At the annual meeting of the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association in December last year, President Akio Toyoda said publicly that pure electric cars had been over-hyped. The Japanese government did not take into account its real carbon dioxide emissions, the impact on power shortages, the damage to consumers' rights and interests, and the impact on the traditional automobile industry. Unexpectedly, Akio Toyoda's attitude has not changed for such a long time in the past. Akio Toyoda told a meeting of the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association in May that Japan could "lose its edge" if it continued to plan to stop selling fuel cars.
At present, not only many countries have announced a timetable for banning the sale of fuel vehicles, but also a number of car companies have announced plans to stop selling fuel vehicles. BAIC announced as early as 2018 that it would completely stop selling fuel vehicles in the national market in 2025. In October 2017, Changan Automobile also released the Shangri-La Plan, which will invest 100 billion yuan in the whole field of new energy vehicles and completely stop the sale of traditional fuel vehicles in 2025. Seahorse also announced that fuel vehicles will be completely phased out in 2025. The Fiat Group also announced a timetable for suspending the sale of traditional fuel vehicles under its brands in 2017. Maserati has only produced pure electric and hybrid models since 2019. In 2021, the Jeep brand will all use the electric version. In addition, Jaguar Land Rover also said that all newly released Jaguar Land Rover models will be electrified from 2020. Volkswagen also said that by 2030 at the latest, all models will be electrified and the sale of traditional fuel cars will be completely stopped.
It is undeniable that the pure electrification of cars has become an irreversible industrial trend at present, but the market still needs to be transformed from policy-driven to consumer demand-driven. Car companies not only seize the dividend of new energy, but also need to improve the quality of their products. And then move closer to the intelligent trend. Only by providing consumers with the most reliable and high-quality products can we obtain market recognition and make the new energy industry develop more healthily.
