(1) from now on, a total of 6 imported S-class cars with production dates from February 5, 2021 to March 1, 2021 will be recalled.

Some vehicles within the scope of this recall do not meet the sealing requirements due to the supplier's production deviation. Fuel may leak from the fuel tank to the road, which will increase the risk of accidents for other road users. It does not meet the requirements of the relevant national mandatory standards, and there are potential safety risks.

Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile sales Co., Ltd. will replace qualified fuel tanks for affected vehicles free of charge through authorized dealers to eliminate safety risks.

(2) starting from September 24, 2021, a total of 17927 imported S-class vehicles with production dates from August 10, 2020 to June 9, 2021 will be recalled.

There is a problem with the communication module control unit software of the vehicle within the scope of this recall, resulting in the communication module can not be started normally or reset repeatedly, or there are problems in the software program setup, resulting in the emergency call test mode may be mistakenly activated by the user. In both cases, users can not automatically or manually establish the voice connection of emergency calls through the communication module, which may lead to rescue delay and security risks.

Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile sales Co., Ltd. will upgrade the communication module software for recalled vehicles free of charge through remote upgrade (OTA) technology, so that users do not need to go to the store to eliminate security risks. For vehicles that cannot be recalled through remote upgrade (OTA) technology, Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile sales Co., Ltd. will contact relevant users through the Mercedes-Benz authorized service center to upgrade the communication module software for vehicles free of charge to eliminate security risks.

Although the number of Mercedes-Benz recalls is not very large, it is not the first time that problems with communication modules have occurred. In February, Mercedes-Benz announced a recall of 1.29 million vehicles in the United States because of problems with its communications module, covering a number of models in the market from 2016 to 2021. In March this year, Mercedes-Benz recalled more than 2.6 million defective vehicles in China, including some imported and domestic A, B, C, E, S, GLA SUV, GLB SUV, GLC SUV, GLE SUV, GLS SUV, CLA, SLC, CLS, SL, G-Class, AMG GT, EQC and other models.

There are three reasons for the recall: 1. Due to problems in the design of the communication module software, when the vehicle collides and automatically triggers the emergency call service, the temporary drop in the voltage of the communication module power supply caused by the vehicle collision may lead to deviation in the position of the vehicle automatically sent to the Mercedes-Benz emergency call center, which may lead to a delay in rescue. 2. Due to the supplier, the communication module may not be able to connect to the communication service network. In the event of an accident, the emergency call service, including manual and automatic functions, will not be available, which may cause rescue delays; 3. The communication module software of the vehicle may have been disabled. In the event of an accident, emergency call services, including manual and automatic functions, will not be available, which may cause rescue delays

At present, the problem of Mercedes-Benz communication module has not been solved, and some models may have problems. However, officials also said that most of them can be solved through OTA, and a small number of them need to go to Mercedes-Benz authorized service center to upgrade or activate communication module software.
