AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)10/04 Report--
Nissan plans to sell its factory in Barcelona, Spain, to Great Wall Motor, and the two sides will discuss the matter, Nikkei's Chinese website reported. In addition, the report also pointed out that Great Wall has expressed a positive attitude towards the acquisition of Nissan's Barcelona plant and is still discussing whether to acquire other plants.
According to earlier media reports, due to the poor performance of Nissan in 2020, the Renault-Nissan alliance formulated a new global restructuring strategy, the European market is dominated by Renault integration, and Nissan plans to close its three plants in Spain. The factory was supposed to close in December 2020, but it was delayed for a year after the local government intervened to find a replacement. It is understood that the Barcelona plant is one of Nissan's major factories in Europe, employing a total of 2400 employees, together with related facilities, the total staff size is about 3000 people.
It is worth noting that Great Wall has been expanding globally in recent years and has acquired two overseas factories. In November 2020, Great Wall announced that it had officially taken ownership of GM's plant in Thailand. On August 18, Great Wall acquired Mercedes-Benz factories in Brazil, which also accelerated the development and strategic landing of Great Wall Motor in the South American market, and further promoted the transformation of Great Wall Motor into a global technology travel company. Great Wall Motor said that delivery of the Brazilian plant is expected to be completed by the end of 2021, and the revamped plant will have an annual production capacity of 100000 vehicles, creating nearly 2000 local jobs. By the end of its mother, Great Wall Motor has four overseas full-process vehicle factories, including Tula in Russia, Talegang in India, Luoyong in Thailand and Brazil. The Brazilian factory will also become an important strategic fulcrum for Great Wall in the South American market, which will serve as a bridgehead to infiltrate the huge South American automobile market. In addition, on October 4th, Great Wall Motor (GWM) Thailand user experience Center was officially completed and opened to the public, which is Great Wall Motor's first user experience center established overseas.
Great Wall Motor said in September that the global R & D, production and sales system is becoming more and more perfect, and that it is developing rapidly overseas. According to relevant data, 12399 new cars were sold overseas in August, an increase of 81.1 percent over the same period last year. From January to August, overseas sales of 86509 vehicles, an increase of 156.8 percent, accounted for 11 percent of the overall sales. Great Wall said that due to the epidemic in Southeast Asia, the supply of parts such as Bosch ESP (body electronic stabilization system) fell sharply, which had an impact on Great Wall production in August. At the 2021 Munich International Auto Show on September 6, Great Wall Motor's Wei Brand and Euler also released their European market strategy, announcing their entry into the European luxury car market and the new energy vehicle market. Euler said it will provide European users with more than five global leading new energy smart models in the next two years, and will launch more than 10 global premiere models in Europe by 2025. In addition, the first European brand experience center will open in Munich next year.
Earlier, at the 2021 overseas Dealers' Conference, Great Wall put forward a new strategic goal of selling 1 million vehicles overseas in 2025. Wei Jianjun, chairman of Great Wall Motor, has also stressed many times: "if a brand wants to succeed, it must be an international brand." "if independent brands want to go out, they still have a good chance of living, and if they don't go out, they will only die." As the global automobile ushered in a new round of consumption upgrading, the automobile production capacity of Great Wall Motor has been difficult to meet the huge market demand. If Great Wall succeeds in acquiring Nissan's Barcelona plant, it will go a step further in expanding its overseas markets.
