According to the latest retail sales statistics of the Federation of passengers, sales in the domestic narrow passenger car market reached 1.581 million in September, down 17.4% from a year earlier and up 9.0% from a month earlier. Of these, car sales were 766000, down 17.6% from the same period last year, up 4.3% from the previous month, up 21.6% from the same period last year, and 8.6% from the previous month. 732000 SUV sales were down 16.6% from the same period last year and 14.5% from the previous year.

Judging from the car list, Nissan Xuanyi, Hongguang MINI and Volkswagen Xilangyi all sold more than 30, 000 vehicles, of which the Hongguang MINIEV, an independent subcompact, still exists, ranking second in the car list with a score of 35169, which is the best performance of the year. As a 30, 000-yuan mini electric car, Hongguang MINI has become the new favorite of the market, with cumulative sales of 256661 vehicles in the first three quarters, replacing the Toyota Corolla into the top three on the overall list of cars.

In addition to Hongguang MINI, Tesla Model 3 and BYD Qin PLUS DM-i also successfully squeezed into the top 10, especially BYD Qin PLUS DM-i, whose sales in the market are gradually climbing, reaching 15164 vehicles in September, and whether it can break through 20, 000 vehicles is still limited by production capacity. As for Model 3, although it reappeared on the list after many months, up 68.8% from a year earlier, Model Y seems to have become a new choice for consumers, affecting the performance of Model 3 to some extent.

Let's take a look at other models. Models with a drop of more than 40% include the new Bora, Yinglong, Carola, Leiling, etc., especially the Carola, which fell by 65.4%. Honda's Accord is the only model on the list, down 21.3% from a year earlier to 16253, while the BMW 3-Series, which appeared on the car list for many months before, also fell out. It is worth mentioning that the Passat made a comeback in September, up 6.2 per cent from a year earlier to 13905 vehicles, making it one of the few models on the sedan list to grow.

Compared with the car list, the SUV list has changed more. In September, the SUV sales were no longer Harvard H6, Changan CS75 and Honda CR-V, but from Tesla's Model Y. Why can Model Y surpass Harvard H6 to become the SUV champion? Tesla exported a large number of products overseas in July and August, resulting in the unsatisfactory performance of Model Y in the market, while in September Tesla delivered a large number of products to domestic car owners, which brought a huge increase. Of course, the Model Y can become Tesla's best-selling model, which also has a lot to do with price reduction. However, many people were shocked that Model Y overtook Harvard H6 to become the top seller in September.

Looking at other models, there were seven joint venture SUV models on the list in September, but sales generally fell, with Honda CR-V down 48.8% year-on-year, colorful Intelligence down 27.3% and Toyota RAV4 down 25.0%. It is worth mentioning that Volkswagen Tuyue actually grew 2.7 per cent year-on-year to 14648 vehicles, making it the only model in the joint venture SUV to achieve growth. In addition, the new generation of Nissan Qijun did not appear on the list, and according to relevant data, Qijun sold 4021 vehicles in September, roughly the same as in August.

Let's take a look at the independent SUV. There were a lot of independent SUV on the list in September, and there were also many "freshmen", such as Auchan X5, Red Flag HS5, Roewe RX5 and so on. However, the performance of independent SUV is not optimistic and is not much better than that of joint venture SUV. For example, the Harvard H6 was overtaken by Model Y, which fell by 40.4% in September, Changan CS75 also dropped by 37.9% compared with the same period last year, and Roewe RX5, although squeezed into the top 15, also fell by 42.5%. Of course, there are also some models with eye-catching performance, such as BYD Song and Red Flag HS5, both achieved year-on-year growth, of which BYD Song grew 49.7% year-on-year.

Compared with the smaller share of the MPV market, there are not many bright spots. According to the list, Wuling Hongguang and Buick GL8 have more than 10,000 models, 18756 and 10183 respectively, down 21.7% and 49.9% respectively from the same period last year. In terms of other models, most of the top 15 were independent MPV, with Chuanqi M8 and Roewe iMAX8 soaring, up 203.1% and 645.6% respectively from the same period last year.

Judging from the list of models in September, the main reason for the decline in sales of most models is related to the shortage of chips, and of course it has something to do with the imminent replacement of new cars and brand development strategy. However, it is incredible that although the passenger car market is in a state of decline, the new energy vehicle market is showing double growth and does not seem to be affected by chips.
