AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)10/15 Report--
Recently, foreign media have exposed preview videos of several electric cars released by Foxconn Group, which can be seen using Foxconn's own car brand Foxtron. The video contains an all-electric car, an all-electric SUV and an electric bus. It is understood that the model exposed in the video will be on display at Hon Hai Technology Day (HHTD21) on October 18. In terms of performance, Foxconn will introduce battery packs with a capacity of 93,100 and 116kWh. The output power of the front motor is 95kW, 150kW and 200kW, and the output power of the rear motor is 150kW, 200kW, 240kW and 340kW. Some industry insiders said that all the models in the video are already practical when they are publicly displayed, and they may soon be put into production.
It is worth noting that on September 15, a group of spy photos of the first model suspected of being built by Foxconn were exposed by the media, saying that the new car would be unveiled on October 18. Judging from the photos, the car is most likely to be a SUV-rated vehicle in the video and is expected to compete with domestic high-end brands such as Xilai and ideal. In terms of appearance, the new car will adopt a design style similar to a sliding back sedan, with a fully closed front grille with through headlights and the front of the new car marked with the word "FOXTRON".
Earlier, according to foreign media reports, the cooperation project between Foxconn and Baiteng has been shelved, mainly due to the deteriorating financial situation of Baiteng. Foreign media quoted several people familiar with the matter as saying that the project has not yet been officially terminated and that the small number of Foxconn employees at the Baiteng plant are preparing for the final termination of the project. Some of the senior people involved in the project have left Foxconn. So far, Foxconn and Baiteng have not commented on the matter. However, it is not difficult to see that although there has been no progress in the cooperation between Foxconn and Baiteng, the pace of Foxconn's entry into the new energy market has not stopped. On Sept. 14, Foxconn parent company Hon Hai announced that it had formally signed a joint venture with Thai National Oil Company to produce electric cars and build a new plant in Thailand. It is understood that the investment amount of the project is about 10 to 2 billion US dollars. The first stage is to plan for two to three years to reach the production target of 50, 000 vehicles a year, and to expand to 150000 vehicles a year in the future.
From the perspective of Foxconn car-building, many netizens said they did not understand it. From the original Apple OEM, the sudden announcement to enter the car-building field is really a bit confusing. But as early as 2005, Foxconn bought a 100 per cent stake in Taiwan's Antai for 370 million to enter the auto industry. In 2013, Foxconn became a supplier to BMW, Tesla, Mercedes-Benz and other car companies. In 2016, Foxconn invested in Didi and officially entered the ride-hailing industry. In 2017, Foxconn invested in Ningde era and entered the battery field. Foxconn's subsidiary, Industrial Fulian, will be listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2018, which will also provide a boost for Foxconn to build cars. For Foxconn, the key to its electric vehicle strategy is not to succeed with a single customer, but through recently established partnerships and profitability from various projects starting in 2022, according to industry analysts. To increase revenue related to electric vehicles and plans to occupy 10 per cent of the global electric vehicle market between 2025 and 2027.
