Volkswagen will recall a total of 30687 imported 2012-2014 Beetle series cars made between April 24, 2012 and July 3, 2014 from March 5, 2022, according to the website of the General Administration of Market Supervision.

According to the official recall information, because the drivers of these vehicles are equipped with airbags on the front, they are the desiccant ammonium nitrate gas generator produced by Takata. If the driver's front airbag may be triggered and deployed in the collision accident after the vehicle has been used for a long time, the gas generator will be abnormally damaged, resulting in debris flying out, injuring the people in the car, and there is a safety hidden danger. Volkswagen will entrust an authorized dealer to replace the driver's front airbag for the recalled vehicles free of charge, in order to eliminate safety risks.

The recall is a change by Volkswagen to the June 3 recall, which was changed to March 5, 2022. As for the reason for the change, officials said that due to production and logistics reasons at the supplier, the parts used for the recall could not be delivered to China as scheduled, so the recall could not begin on October 15, 2021.

It is worth noting that, also because of the Takata airbag, almost all of BMW's imported cars have been recalled. On August 2, according to the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, BMW decided to recall some imported 1-Series, 2-Series, 3-Series, 4-Series, 5-Series, X1, X3, X4, X5, X5M, X6 and X6 Active Hybrid vehicles produced from February 17, 2005 to August 27, 2017, a total of 8097 vehicles.

The recall is also due to the fact that the vehicle's airbag is equipped with a gas generator containing ammonium nitrate produced by Takata. The gas generating agent is imperfect in moistureproof, and the gas generating agent may deteriorate under the influence of repeated changes in temperature and humidity. In the process of opening the airbag, the pressure may be too high inside the gas generator, and the gas generator may be abnormally damaged, resulting in debris flying out, injuring the people in the car, and there are hidden dangers.

After the outbreak of the Takata airbag incident in Japan in 2015, after many large-scale car safety recalls, it is still not over. The incident also led to the largest recall in the history of the auto industry, and led directly to the bankruptcy of Takata. Although Takata is said to be bankrupt, Takata once occupied 20% of the global airbag market, the problem of its airbag production has not been solved, and many recalls have been carried out at home and abroad for the problem of Takata airbag. At present, there are still many cars deeply troubled by its safety.
