AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)11/12 Report--

Toyota said that all 14 factories and 28 production lines in Japan would resume normal operations in December, with plans to produce 800000 vehicles worldwide in December and maintain an earlier forecast of 9 million for the current fiscal year, according to media reports today.

It is worth noting that Toyota has repeatedly announced production cuts due to lack of core this year. On Oct. 15, Toyota officials said it would cut production in November because of a shortage of car chips, with an earlier plan to cut production by between 100000 and 150000 vehicles. It expects global production of between 850000 and 900000 vehicles in November. In addition, Toyota said its actual production has been lower than planned since August. Toyota's global production was only between 500000 and 600000 vehicles in September and October 2021. In order to make up for the previous production gap, Toyota began to increase production sharply in November, with an initial production plan of 1 million vehicles. However, due to the shortage of parts, it said it could not make up for the previous production gap. In November, domestic production will be cut by about 50, 000 vehicles, while overseas production will be cut by 50-100000 vehicles.

As early as September, Toyota cut its planned production of 900000 vehicles by 40% to 540, 000 vehicles, saying that a total of 27 production lines at 14 factories in Japan would cease operation in October due to a shortage of spare parts caused by outbreaks in Southeast Asia. In the Chinese market, Toyota's sales have also been affected by production restrictions. According to the latest statistics, Toyota announced that it sold 142000 vehicles in China in October, down 19% from a year earlier.

It is not hard to see that the chip shortage has had an impact on Japanese carmakers in the past few months. It is understood that in October 2021, new car sales in Japan were 279341, a decline of 31.3% compared with the same period in 2020. The decline is the fourth consecutive month of decline in new car sales in Japan.

Although the shortage of automotive chips has eased in the third quarter of 2021, a number of automakers have recently indicated that they plan to increase production, and automakers such as General Motors, Volkswagen and Ford will also increase their forecasts according to market conditions. In addition, according to the China Automobile Association, the production and sales of new energy vehicles reached 397000 and 383000 respectively in October, up 12.5% and 7.2% from the previous month, both 1.3 times higher than the same period last year. The person in charge of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said that judging from the situation in that month, the supply of chips eased slightly, but it still could not meet the needs of production.

According to statistics, as of October this year, the cumulative production reduction of the global automobile market due to the lack of "core" has reached 9.345 million, and the order satisfaction rate of automotive chips is less than 20%. Some people in the industry said that there are no signs of a return to normal supply of automotive chips, but the shortage of automotive chips will not be a long-term phenomenon.
