Recently, Volvo Automobile sales (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in accordance with the regulations on the Administration of defective Automobile products recall and the measures for the implementation of defective Automobile products recall regulations. It was decided to recall the following imported vehicles with a total of 7145 vehicles from November 22nd, 2021.

Scope of recall: 21 vehicles of 2004 and 2009 S60 produced from June 2, 2003 to November 26, 2008, 7027 vehicles of 2004-2006 S80 produced from March 20, 2003 to February 24, 2006, and 95 vehicles of 2001-2003 XC70 produced from August 29, 2000 to October 28, 2002. Part of the 2002 and 2006 V70 cars produced from March 4, 2002 to November 14, 2005, totaling 2.

The reason for the recall: due to the supplier, when the driver-side airbag is often in a high-temperature and high-humidity environment during the service life cycle, the gunpowder burning of the airbag gas generator may attenuate with the passage of time. When the driver side airbag is deployed in a vehicle collision, the fuel powder of the gas generator may cause excessive combustion pressure due to attenuation, and in some cases, the gas generator will break due to excessive pressure. in extreme cases, there is a risk that the driver will be hit by the fragments of the gas generator, and there are hidden dangers.

Solution: Volvo Automobile sales (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will replace the improved driver-side airbags for vehicles within the recall range free of charge to eliminate safety risks.

In fact, Volvo launched a recall as early as 2020. On November 27th, Volvo Automobile sales (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration and decided to recall a total of 4779 of the following vehicles.

(1) recall a total of 369 imported S60 vehicles produced in 2001-2003 from July 13, 2000 to March 7, 2003, and 2584 imported S80 vehicles in 2002-2003 produced from May 20, 2000 to March 13, 2003.

(2) recall a total of 1826 imported S80 vehicles produced from May 20, 2000 to March 13, 2003.

In October, foreign media reported that Volvo expanded the recall of 306782 older models worldwide, including some of the V70 and XC70 vehicles from 2001 to 2008, of which 2008 models in the US market were not affected. Earlier, Volvo announced a worldwide recall of 460769 vehicles, including the 2001-2006 S80 and the 2001-2009 S60, which were manufactured between May 2000 and March 2009. Volvo said that if the airbag inflator propellant tablets are affected by high humidity and high inflator temperature, the problem will occur over time. The tablets begin to rot and form dust particles, increasing the pressure and "burning speed" of the equipment, which can cause the inflator to break and spray metal fragments into the occupants.
