AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)11/16 Report--

Previously, a suspected SAIC Volkswagen Yizheng plant 2022-2023 vehicle model technical transformation project plan circulated online. According to the plan, the new Santana, Santana Haona, Xin Rui and Xin Ying will stop production after technological transformation and switch to the mid-term production of Tuyue, Lingdu, Polo and Tu Jie.

In response to the above news, SAIC Volkswagen responded to the media that Santana did not formally stop production, and Santana's production capacity was temporarily allocated to other models on the same platform due to insufficient supply of spare parts. SAIC Volkswagen official said: at present, Santana terminal sales are stable, with cumulative sales of more than 126000 vehicles in the first three quarters. In the future, SAIC-Volkswagen will formulate relevant product plans according to the actual market situation. At present, there is no clear official news that it will stop production.

Data show that Volkswagen introduced the first 100 Santana to China in 1983 in the form of full piece assembly (CKD), and later became Volkswagen's first domestic model in China, and it took only three years for Santana's 10000 domestic models to go offline. Subsequently, the Santana 2000, also from Brazilian Volkswagen, was officially launched in the Chinese market and evolved into models such as Santana 3000 and Santana Zhijun in the years since.

In October 2012, SAIC-Volkswagen announced the formal suspension of production of the old Santana (Santana 87) and issued a "good-bye, Santana" advertisement, announcing that the old Santana was officially delisted. In December of the same year, the new Santana made its debut in Wolfsburg, Germany, and then SAIC Volkswagen introduced it to China. It is understood that the new Santana was built on the new PQ25+ platform, with 1.4L and 1.6L engines, as well as 8 different configurations, including manual and automatic in fifth gear, with a price range of 8.49-123800 yuan at that time. Based on the new platform, the new Santana has made new innovations in appearance, interior, power and configuration, which has subverted consumers' perception of Santana, but due to the intensification of market competition, Santana has gradually faded out of sight and become the main supplier of taxis and coach cars.

Fukang, Jetta and Santana are known as the "old three". Fukang officially stopped production as early as 2008, while Jetta also announced the suspension of production in June 2019, and became a separate brand. In the eyes of many consumers, the old Santana has already stopped production, now the new Santana in addition to the continuation of the name, and the old Santana does not have much connection.

Some Volkswagen sales staff said: if you want to buy 2021 Santana, there is basically no existing car, but you can book, and it will take a long time to wait for the car, because the fuel consumption of the cash Volkswagen Santana model is not up to standard. if according to the current national double points policy, each Santana will probably generate about minus 0.4 points. In other words, SAIC-Volkswagen has to pay a fine of about 2000 yuan for every Santana it produces, which undoubtedly increases the burden on the enterprise virtually.

This statement is partly in line with the response of SAIC-Volkswagen officials. SAIC Volkswagen Yizheng factory official said that our current plan is to suspend production of Santana models from next year, but stopping production does not mean giving up, but is the need for upgrading. The official also revealed that in the future, the new car will reduce the overall fuel consumption standard, and will provide a number of power options, which can be switched to a hybrid or pure electric version at any time.

According to the available information, Santana has indeed stopped production, but SAIC Volkswagen does not intend to give up Santana, the future will be based on market demand to develop a corresponding production plan, to reduce the overall fuel consumption standards for the present. Maybe we can see a hybrid version or a pure electric version of Santana in the future.
