AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)11/18 Report--

On November 17, according to media reports, an employee of BYD died suddenly in a rented house. It is understood that he had worked seven consecutive night shifts before. At present, according to the investigation opinion notice issued by the police, the possibility of criminal cases has been ruled out, but due to the absence of an autopsy, the specific cause of death is not yet clear, and his family believes that it may be related to continuous long overtime work.

According to the relevant information exposed, the employee is an employee of the 11th Division of BYD Automobile Co., Ltd., work number 653330. After his death, relatives obtained the relevant work punch records from his mobile phone. According to sign-in records, he worked seven consecutive night shifts from October 28 to November 3, including about 12 hours on six working days, and 280 hours for the whole of October. And the day before the incident, on November 3, he got off work at 08:05 in the morning, went to work at 19:38 that day, and asked for leave at 00:39 on the 4th. His relatives told the media that police deduced that the time of death of the employee was between 19:00 and 22:00 in the evening on November 4.

In addition, the cousin of the employee involved in the accident said that after his cousin's accident, the family had consulted and communicated with relevant personnel of BYD several times, but BYD staff said that the employee died in a rented house and had nothing to do with the company. "BYD began to say that there would be a compensation of NT $20,000 to NT $30,000, and now it is saying that it will cost NT $60,000 or NT $70,000. Together with the return of his provident fund and social security, it may be about NT $150000. His cousin said: although his cousin did not die in the company, he felt that his accident was related to his previous continuous overtime and intensive work.

As the incident continued to ferment, it also went viral on Weibo. Recently, with regard to the latest development of the matter, BYD responded that the company was very saddened by the accident of its employees. At present, the relevant personnel are communicating with the family members of the employees and negotiating to deal with them. After negotiation, in addition to returning the provident fund social security, BYD paid the employee's family 200000 yuan in a lump sum and signed a compensation agreement with the family. His family also said that the specific contents of the agreement could not be made public due to the agreement between the two parties, and it is expected that the compensation will be received today and guaranteed by the local police station. Now I just want to settle the matter as soon as possible.

An employee of BYD's Xi'an base told the media that the 11th Division is the four major processes for making complete vehicles. "it's not just BYD who works the night shift. Most factory operators work the night shift. BYD works shifts once a month." The employee also said, "the manufacturing industry is labor-intensive, not everyone can carry it, so the turnover of personnel is also very large."

It is worth noting that recently, a number of large Internet companies have abolished the 996 working system and forbidden employees to work overtime, but the sudden death of BYD employees in rented housing has once again pushed the "overtime culture" to the forefront of the storm. According to Article 36 of the Labor Law, the state implements a working-hour system in which workers work no more than 8 hours a day and 44 hours a week on average. Article 38 stipulates that the employing unit shall ensure that workers have at least one day off a week.
