In the past few days, the environmental information disclosure platform of Shanghai enterprises and institutions has issued an environmental impact assessment announcement, which is the second phase of the production line optimization project of the Shanghai Tesla super factory project.
According to the EIA report, the project involved is the optimization and expansion of the production line, with no change in production models, but still produces Model 3, Model Y and derivative models. According to Tesla's estimate, after the completion of the production line optimization project, the factory will add 4000 employees, bringing the number of employees of the whole plant to 19000.
The total investment of the optimization project in this stage of Tesla's production line is 1.2 billion yuan. if the process goes smoothly, the project is expected to start in December and be completed as soon as April next year. At present, Shanghai Tesla's existing factory has a capacity of about 40, 000 vehicles per month, while Tesla sold 54391 vehicles wholesale in October, of which 13725 were sold domestically and 40666 were exported to Asia-Pacific and European markets, including Japan. there is a gap of about 20 per cent between existing factory capacity and current sales, while Tesla's plant in Berlin, Germany will not start production until January next year. Taking into account the future growth of Tesla orders, Tesla to promote the production capacity of the factory is an important task, at least in shortening the delivery time will be quite obvious.
From the perspective of the timeline, the construction of Tesla's factory will be faster than most projects. The contract was signed in July 2018, and it took only a few months to start construction at the factory.
Tesla's existing first phase of the project will start on February 27th, 2019, and the hoisting of the steel roof will begin on March 22nd. The ground hardening work will be completed in June and completed in September.
Tesla originally planned to complete the offline of the first domestic Model 3 model in September of that year, but the offline time may be slightly delayed due to other supporting facilities lagging behind the construction progress of the factory. Even so, the first domestic Model 3 went offline after a month's delay.
This is only two years after the first Model 3 went offline. According to the design of the project at that time, it is planned to produce 150000 Model 3s a year. Combined with follow-up construction projects, the factory has a production capacity target of 500000 vehicles, which is equivalent to its current months of sales. There is some gap between the two.
At that time, most of Tesla's Shanghai factory raised funds for construction in the form of loans in China. Tesla confirmed earlier that it had reached an agreement with several banks, including China Construction Bank, Agricultural Bank, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, to obtain a loan of US $521 million (about 3.5 billion yuan) to build an automobile and battery factory in Shanghai, China, and quickly reach a production of Model 3 cars. In May this year, when Tesla was involved in the whirlpool of rights protection at the Shanghai auto show, Tesla made a move to repay the loan 16 months ahead of schedule. At that time, there were media reports that Tesla paid off the loan in advance in order to run away, but now it doesn't seem to be.
Tesla's production capacity data may not be much different from the new forces in China. A few days ago, he Xiaopeng, chairman of Xiaopeng Automobile, another domestic car brand, said that Xiaopeng Automobile Zhaoqing factory currently produces 20 hours of double shifts a day, and its production capacity is climbing continuously. In addition, the plants under construction in Guangzhou and Wuhan can reach 400000 vehicles, and the annual output of 600000 vehicles can be supported by double shifts. The gap in sales between the two is far greater than the gap in production capacity. Xiaopeng sold more than 10,000 cars in September and October, delivering 10100 vehicles in October, making it the only new power company to sell more than 10,000 cars.
The re-expansion of the Shanghai super factory is inseparable from Tesla's positioning. This year, Tesla positioned the Shanghai super factory as the company's main car export center-in addition to undertaking the delivery work in the Chinese market, the Shanghai super factory also exports a large number of Model 3 and Model Y to the Asian and European markets, which may change after the opening of the German factory. According to the results for the third quarter of this year, the annual production capacity of the Shanghai super factory has exceeded 450000 vehicles, close to the current full capacity of the factory, and the company's revenue in the Chinese market reached US $3.113 billion, a year-on-year increase of 78.5%.
