According to the data, Toyota's global sales in October 2021 were 677564, down 20.1% from the same period last year. In particular, in the Japanese home market, Toyota sold 84705 vehicles, down 41.3% from the same period last year; global production was 627452, down 25.8% from the same period last year. Japan's local market fell 50.9% to 151918.
Toyota said global sales fell for two consecutive months compared with the same period last year, and global production fell for three consecutive months, mainly due to outbreaks in Southeast Asia and shortages of components and semiconductors. Toyota is confident about November production, which is expected to reach an all-time high of 850000 to 900000 vehicles in November and may maintain high production levels in December. At the same time, Toyota raised its operating profit for the current fiscal year to 2.8 trillion yen from 2.5 trillion yen in August.
Although the shortage of chips and parts is still the key to restricting production, after months of adjustment, the supply of chips in the global automotive industry is improving. Inventories of Japanese Renesas Electronics, NXP of the Netherlands, Infineon of Germany, Italy and France of Switzerland and Texas Instruments of the United States are all rising. Current market demand remains high and the outlook for the coming months remains unclear, but the rise in inventory levels suggests that carmakers have been forced to shut down production lines this summer.
It was previously reported that Toyota sold 142000 vehicles in China in October, down 19.13% from 175600 in the same period last year. Relevant data show that Guangzhou Auto Toyota sold 60872 vehicles in October, down 14.67% from a year earlier, while FAW Toyota sold 72298 vehicles, an increase of 13.90% over the same period last year. It is not difficult to see from the above data that the Chinese market has also shrunk significantly against the backdrop of a sharp contraction in global market sales, but still outperforms the global market.
In this context, Toyota has further accelerated its focus on the Chinese market, and the layout of Toyota products in China has been significantly accelerated in recent months. At the same time, as the world's largest new energy vehicle market, although Toyota is very conservative about the development of electric vehicles, it will speed up the layout of electric products in the Chinese market due to the development trend. Toyota unveiled its new pure electric concept car bZ4x at the Guangzhou Auto Show. According to Toyota's plan, Toyota's bz4X mass production model will be available early next year and will be sold through more than 1300 dealerships in FAW Toyota and Guangzhou Auto Toyota. By 2025, it will launch five all-electric models based on the e-TNGA platform, including three SUV, a station wagon and two MPV, when Toyota will have 10 BEV products in China.
