GAC MOTOR's new GS8 was officially launched on December 12, with a total of six models in fuel version and hybrid version, with a price of 18.68-239800 yuan and 22.88-246800 yuan respectively. It is understood that the listing Chuanqi GS8 is the second generation model, based on the GPMA platform, using a new family design language, providing fuel and hybrid power systems.

From the appearance, the new Chuanqi GS8 uses the same square design as the current model, but the difference is that the front part of the face uses a new three-dimensional V-shaped net, with a clear three-stage surrounded shape, the overall shape is relatively strong. At the same time, the new car will provide two different appearance styles, the main difference is the shape of the front grille, divided into "show power" grille and "dragon scale wing" two kinds. The side lines of the vehicle are still relatively straight, and the suspended roof design is used behind the C-pillar, and the overall shape has a lot of similarities with the cash model.

In terms of body size, the new Chuanqi GS8 provides 6-seat and 7-seat seat layout, body length, width and height are 4980mm/1950mm/1780mm, wheelbase is 2920mm. For reference, the current GAC MOTOR GS8 is 4835/1910/1785mm in length, width and height and 2800mm in wheelbase. Judging from the data, the length and wheelbase of the second-generation GS8 have been significantly improved, which is expected to bring a better space experience.

In terms of interior decoration, the new Chuanqi GS8 uses a concise style, using 12.3in LCD instrument + 14.6inch central control screen, 14.6in screen can achieve more than 90% of the functional output, built-in ADIGO4.0 system, so there are not too many physical buttons in the car. In terms of power, the new car launched the hybrid system for the first time, equipped with a huge wave power hybrid system composed of Chuanqi 2.0T engine and Toyota THS hybrid system, with a maximum power of 140kw and a peak torque of 320N ·m. The fuel version will be equipped with 2.0T GDI engine, maximum power 185kw, peak torque 400N ·m, and the transmission system will match the Ericsson 8-speed automatic transmission.

At the 2016 Beijing Auto Show, GAC MOTOR officially unveiled the first generation Chuanqi GS8. As GAC MOTOR's flagship model, it broke the ceiling of its own brand, but still attracted the attention of many consumers. According to the data, GAC MOTOR sold 102214 GS8 vehicles in 2017, 61773 in 2018, 28096 in 2019 and 19694 in 2020, with cumulative sales of only 11073 in the first 11 months of this year. From the data point of view, the first generation of GS8 launched the market is still quite successful, but with the intensification of competition in the SUV market, more and more brand-new SUV products to the market, consumers have a new choice to buy cars, and Chuanqi GS8, which has been on the market for nearly 5 years, is also gradually divorced from the trend of the times, and the current average monthly sales is basically maintained at about 1000 vehicles.

In this context, GAC MOTOR launched the second generation GS8, the new car in the appearance, size and power and other changes, especially in the power application of the hybrid system developed with Toyota, its product power will be significantly improved. In terms of competitive products, Chuanqi GS8's competitors mainly include Red Flag HS5, WEY Mocha and Changan UNI-K, while the joint venture models mainly include Volkswagen Tuguan L, Volkswagen Exploration Mountain, Hyundai Shengda and other models. According to November retail data, Hongqi HS5 sold 15240 vehicles, Tuguan L 13907, Tanyue 6940, Mocha 4776 and Changan UNI-K 3674. It is not difficult to see that the sales gap between the major models is still relatively large, especially compared with the GS8.

According to the list of manufacturers' sales released by the Federation of passengers, GAC MOTOR sold 49642 vehicles in November, of which Shadow Leopard was the best, with 10050, followed by the MPV Chuanqi M8, with 7118. In addition, Chuanqi GS4 sells 6748 vehicles a month, while other models sell less than 5000.
