Following the Oct. 19 recall, Volkswagen expanded its recall of the same problem vehicles.

Volkswagen filed a recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision due to possible oil leakage and fire hazards during driving. Volkswagen (China) Sales Co., Ltd. and FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Co., Ltd. will recall more than 37,000 vehicles, covering Volkswagen Beetle, Golf, Audi and other models, according to an announcement by the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration.

According to the recall announcement:

From February 28,2022, Volkswagen (China) Sales Co., Ltd. recalled some imported Beetle, Shangku, Golf, Xialang, Tuwei and Weilang series vehicles manufactured from June 1,2015 to July 16,2019, totaling 30639 vehicles; Since February 28,2022, FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Co., Ltd. recalled some imported Audi A1 series vehicles manufactured between June 18,2015 and January 27,2018, totaling 6455 vehicles.

It is understood that the reason for the recall is that the vehicles within the scope of recall are equipped with 1.2TSI and 1.4TSI engines produced within a specific time period. Due to manufacturing deviation in the production process, there may be insufficient tightening torque for the oil rail bolts, resulting in bolt loosening during vehicle use. In extreme cases, the seal of the fuel injector may be damaged, causing fuel leakage, unable to rule out the risk of fire, there are potential safety hazards, officials said, vehicles within the scope of the recall will provide free replacement of engine oil rail bolts and tighten bolts according to the new tightening method to eliminate potential safety hazards, and issued emergency measures will entrust authorized dealers to replace engine oil rail bolts free of charge for vehicles within the scope of the recall and tighten bolts according to the new tightening method to eliminate potential safety hazards.

In addition, from December 24,2021, FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Co., Ltd. expanded the recall of some imported Audi A6 Avant and A7 vehicles with production dates from September 25,2020 to May 18,2021, totaling 14 vehicles. The reason for the recall was the software coordination problem between the engine and the transmission control unit. When the vehicle was shifted from gear 1 to gear 2 at a lower speed, if the driver suddenly changed his driving intention at this time and released the accelerator pedal, The "engine stall protection mechanism" will be triggered during the shifting process, resulting in an increase in engine output torque, a slight increase in engine speed, and a sudden increase in vehicle speed of 3-5km/h within 1-2 seconds, increasing the possibility of accidents and potential safety hazards. Similarly, vehicles within the scope of the recall are free to upgrade engine control unit and transmission control unit software to eliminate safety hazards.

As stated at the beginning of the article, this recall belongs to the expanded recall of FAW-Volkswagen Co., Ltd. Recall of Some Imported and Domestic Audi Cars issued on October 19,2021. According to the announcement of the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, the reason for expanding the recall is that through further product investigation, it is found that the vehicles within the scope of this recall have the same potential safety hazard.

On October 19 of this year, FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Co., Ltd. filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration according to the requirements of the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Measures for the Implementation of the Regulations on the Recall of Defective Automobile Products due to the hidden danger of sudden acceleration, and decided to recall some imported and domestic Audi vehicles, Audi A6 Avant, A6L and A7 vehicles from October 22,2021, totaling 104210 vehicles.

The recall includes: 1785 imported A6 Avant 2.0T and A7 2.0T vehicles manufactured from September 9,2020 to May 5,2021; 102425 domestic A6L 2.0T vehicles manufactured from March 18,2020 to August 11,2021.

However, Volkswagen has launched two recalls this month. In addition to this recall, another recall was launched on the 3rd of this month. The vehicles involved were also Golf, Shangku and Golf series models, but the reasons for the recall were different.

According to the recall information released by the official before, the reason for the recall is that the vehicle uses the upper shell of the gearbox electromechanical unit produced by a specific supplier within a certain period of time, and the thread fixing the accumulator may crack and cause the oil pressure to drop during use, resulting in the clutch unable to couple, resulting in the vehicle losing driving force and potential safety hazard. Therefore, Volkswagen decided to expand the recall of some imported Beetle, Shangku and Golf series vehicles manufactured between February 6,2009 and March 3,2016 from December 3,2021, totaling 1540 vehicles.
