AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)12/31 Report--
On Thursday, local time, the US Road Safety Administration said Tesla was recalling more than 475000 Model 3 and Model S electric vehicles to address problems such as rearview cameras and trunks that increase the risk of collisions, foreign media reported. Specifically, the recall will cover about 356000 Model 3s for 2017-2020 and about 119000 Model S for 2014-2021. It is reported that the total number of recalled vehicles is close to the 500000 vehicles delivered by Tesla last year.
According to reports, for Tesla Model 3, the reason for the recall is that the rearview camera cable harness may be damaged due to the opening and closing of the suitcase lid, thus preventing the rearview camera image from being displayed. For Tesla Model S, the recall was due to a problem with the front hood latch that could cause the trunk to open without warning and hinder the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. NHTSA said Tesla was not aware of any collisions, injuries or deaths related to problems with his Model 3 and Model S cars.
At present, the recall is not only related to the US market, the Chinese market has also been affected, and not only imported models from the United States, but also domestic models are deeply involved. Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan and decided to recall the following vehicles from now on, according to the latest release by the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration.
Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. recalled some imported Model S electric vehicles from January 21, 2015 to November 18, 2020, a total of 19697 vehicles.
Vehicles within the scope of this recall may be slightly behind the alignment of the front box latch and the latch, which does not affect the locking of the primary latch, but may affect the locking of the secondary latch. When the primary latch is released accidentally, if the secondary latch is not locked, the front trunk cover may suddenly open while the vehicle is running, affecting the driver's line of sight and increasing the risk of collision accident.
Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. will inspect the secondary latch device of the front trunk cover for vehicles within the recall area free of charge. If it is found that the front trunk cover is not properly locked by the secondary latch device, the front trunk latch device will be repositioned and installed to ensure that it is in the correct position to eliminate safety risks.
Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. recalled some imported Model 3 electric vehicles from October 4, 2018 to November 20, 2019, totaling 35836.
Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recalled a total of 144208 domestic Model 3 electric vehicles manufactured from October 14, 2019 to December 27, 2020.
After the trunk cover of the vehicle in the second and third scope of the recall has been opened and closed repeatedly for a long time, it may cause excessive wear and tear of the trunk wire harness. If the wear causes the core separation of the coaxial cable, it may cause the reversing image not to work properly, thus affecting the driver's field of vision when reversing. In extreme cases, it will increase the collision risk when reversing, and there is a safety hidden danger.
Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will inspect the trunk wiring harness for vehicles within the scope of the recall free of charge. If the degree of wear is within the allowable range of coaxial cable design, a protective cover will be installed for the trunk harness to ensure that the harness has sufficient bending radius when the trunk is closed to prevent further wear; if the wear exceeds the allowable range of coaxial cable design, a new harness will be replaced for the vehicle and a protective cover will be installed to eliminate safety risks.
From the point of view of the recall, it is basically consistent with the problems in the United States market, but from the scale of the recall, the number of domestic models recalled is much higher than that of imported models, although domestic models have achieved a high level of localization, but its production standards are still in accordance with the United States.
This is Tesla's second recall in a month. Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recalled a total of 21599 domestic Model Y electric vehicles manufactured during the period from February 4, 2021 to October 30, 2021. The reason for the recall is that the strength of the front and rear steering knuckle may not meet the design requirements for some vehicles within the scope of the recall due to the manufacture of the supplier. The steering knuckle may be deformed or broken during the use of the vehicle, which may cause the suspension connecting rod to break out of the steering knuckle under extreme force, which will affect the driving control of the vehicle, increase the risk of collision accidents, and there are hidden dangers.
