According to previous reports from the auto industry, some netizens posted online that the mileage of Weima EX5 had been seriously shrunk after the maintenance upgrade, and the vehicle was suspected to have been locked. The netizen said that Weimar carried out the power-locking operation without the owner's permission, and the actual driving range of the vehicle changed from the original 350km to the current 260km, which is a far cry from the 400km marked at the time of purchase. However, Weimar officials responded, saying that the problem was a recent feedback from individual users and was an occasional case.

At about 4: 00 a.m. on December 20, 2021, a new energy vehicle suddenly caught fire at a charging station near Changjiang Road, Biyun Road, Zhengzhou. The owner of the car concerned said in an interview with the media that he bought an electric SUV of a domestic brand, which had only been used for about 8 months until spontaneous combustion, and immediately got out of the car to check after hearing an abnormal noise from the bottom of the vehicle while charging. As a result, the vehicle was on fire. A number of netizens pointed out that the burning new energy vehicle is suspected of Weima EX5.

Two days later, an electric car with license plate number Qiong BD16XXX caught fire along Conch Road, Jiyang District, Sanya City, at about 7 a.m. on December 22, 2021, according to the Southern Metropolis Daily. From the video, the burning electric vehicle is in the burning stage, the fire at the scene has been put out in time by Sanya fire rescue, and the fire has been brought under control, but the electric vehicle has been burned beyond recognition. According to Sina Automobile, the burning car in the video was burned beyond recognition by the Weima car logo hanging on the video.

What is more serious is that in October 2020, Weima broke out several fires in one month. On October 5, 2020, a parked Weima EX5 electric car caught fire by the side of the road and the whole vehicle was scrapped. On October 13, a Weima electric car in Shaowu, Fujian Province caught fire while charging, causing serious damage. On the evening of October 27th, a spontaneous combustion accident also occurred in Zhongguancun, Beijing. Residents around said they heard a violent explosion and a clear shock, and the scene was filled with a pungent smell. Finally, on October 28, 2020, Weimar filed a recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, recalling 1282 Weima electric vehicles, and made it clear that the accident was caused by the quality of the battery.

What is "power lock"? "Lock up" is to lock the power of the battery, which is to lock the SOC (system-on-chip) window of the battery by upgrading and rewriting BMS (New Energy vehicle Battery Management system), redefining the voltage range of the battery to limit the battery's charge and consumption.
