AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)01/09 Report--

According to the statistics of automobile recall issued by the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in 2021,44 automobile brands in the domestic passenger car market issued 155 recall announcements in 2021, with 8733735 passenger cars recalled accumulatively, with a year-on-year growth of 31.88% compared with 2020.

According to the recall list, Mercedes-Benz overpowered a number of brands and topped the 2021 domestic recall list. On March 12,2021, Mercedes-Benz filed a recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration. Due to the problem of communication module software, some imported and domestic Class A, B, C, E, S, GLA SUV, GLB SUV, GLC SUV, GLE SUV, GLS SUV and EQC vehicles were recalled, totaling more than 2.6 million vehicles.

This recall measure on March 12,2021 alone has exceeded the total annual recall of other automobile enterprises. Throughout the year, Mercedes-Benz recalled 2781204 passenger cars 17 times, leading Audi, BMW and other first-tier luxury brands.

Unexpectedly, the recall volume of SAIC GM Wuling is second only to Mercedes-Benz. On July 16,2021, SAIC GM Wuling recalled a total of 1436997 vehicles due to insufficient wear resistance of engine crankcase forced ventilation valve spool, which may cause engine damage in extreme cases and unreasonable emission risk. It is understood that this is the first relevant recall after the official implementation of the Regulations on the Administration of Motor Vehicle Emission Recall.

In addition to SAIC GM Wuling, self-owned brands including BAIC New Energy, BAIC Shenbao, Jianghuai, Chery, FAW Pentium, BYD, Oura, Cheetah and other independent brands have taken recall measures during the year. In 2021, 1989023 self-owned brands were recalled accumulatively, accounting for 22.77% of the total recalls.

The Toyota brand ranked third, with a cumulative recall of 1.285 million vehicles throughout the year, with the largest recall occurring at the end of last year. On December 10,2021, Toyota Joint Venture filed a recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration. The internal components of engine exhaust gas recirculation valve (EGR valve) of vehicles within the scope of recall may be corroded by high concentration of chlorine components in fuel oil, resulting in poor valve body operation, which may cause poor engine operation. In extreme cases, the vehicle will stall at low speed and increase the risk of collision accident. For this reason, Toyota recalled nearly 900,000 vehicles, including Toyota brand and Lexus brand, involving Camry, Asian Dragon, Weilanda, RAV4 Rongfang, Lexus ES200, Lexus ES260 and other best-selling models.

This is Toyota's fourth large-scale recall this year. In June and July of this year, Toyota launched two recalls, with a total of more than 200,000 recalls, also involving a number of popular models.

There were also many recalls of new power brands during the year, especially Tesla. With the popularity of new energy vehicles, Tesla brand has repeatedly created "miracles" in the domestic market, especially Model Y, although it has only been on the market for one year, but sales have surpassed Model 3 to become Tesla's best-selling model in China. However, Tesla's product problems continue to emerge at the same time as record sales. Tesla recalled 543811 electric vehicles six times in China in 2021, far exceeding the recall level in 2020.

On the last day of 2021, Tesla launched a recall in China, recalling a total of 199741 electric vehicles, including domestic Model 3, imported Model 3 and Model S, due to "the front storage of the vehicle cannot be locked" and "the trunk harness is worn or the reversing image cannot work properly." Almost at the same time, US regulators said Tesla recalled 475318 Model 3 and Model S vehicles in the United States due to the same problem.

In addition to Tesla, new brands Xiaopeng Automobile and Polar Star Automobile are also recalled in China. In January 2021, Xiaopeng Automobile recalled 13399 G3 vehicles due to tinned terminals connected to copper bar screws on inverter DC bus capacitor, which may cause short circuit between positive and negative electrodes of high voltage DC due to tin whiskers, and the vehicle may not be started again when it is in parking state, and the vehicle may lose power when it is in driving state. With the accelerated development of new energy vehicles, the quality of their products has also attracted much attention from the market, which is a problem that automobile manufacturers cannot ignore in the production process.

The recall does not represent a quality problem, but to some extent reflects that there are still some problems with the brand in some way. From the above brands, there are Mercedes-Benz because of "low-level mistakes" and pay, there are also like Buick negligence on parts and lead to recalls, of course, there are Honda Toyota like "innocent lying gun".

So is the brand that has not been recalled more secure in terms of product craftsmanship and design? Obviously not! Either there is no statistics and feedback on consumer quality complaints, or there is no sense of responsibility for consumers. Some netizens said,"Recall at least confirm that there is a problem with the product, but if you don't recall, you never know where the problem is"!
