Sales of new energy in December: BYD 93000 cars of China's first Tesla exceeded 70, 000

This afternoon, the Federation of passengers announced the sales of new energy vehicles in December. According to the data, there are 14 enterprises with wholesale sales of more than 10,000 vehicles, a substantial increase over the previous period. Among them: 93338 from BYD, 70847 from Tesla China, 60372 from SAIC-GM Wuling, 20926 from Great Wall, 20501 from Chery, 16831 from Geely, 16000 from Xiaopeng, 14868 from SAIC, 14,500 from GAC Eian, 14087 from ideal car, 11213 from FAW-Volkswagen, 10,489 from Lulai, 10,404 from Changan and 10,127 from Hezhong.

From January to December, retail sales of new energy vehicles were 2.989 million, an increase of 169.1 percent over the same period last year, setting a record for sales of new energy vehicles in China. In terms of wholesale manufacturers, 3.312 million new energy passenger vehicles were wholesale nationwide from January to December, an increase of 181.0% over the same period last year.

Among them, BYD and Tesla sales data are more eye-catching. BYD has previously announced sales in 2021, and it successfully crowned China's annual sales leader of new energy passenger vehicles with sales data of 593745, including EV pure electricity sales of 320810 units and DM hybrid sales of 272935 units. Genglian wholesale sales of 93338 vehicles, BYD officially released terminal sales of 92823 vehicles, an increase of 236.4% year-on-year, about equivalent to six new power leaders Xiaopeng car, Xiaopeng car sales in December was 16000. Although in the past tradition, we will habitually rank traditional automakers and new power manufacturers separately. However, when more and more traditional manufacturers turn to electrification, it is believed that this difference will disappear soon.

In December, the sales of new car companies such as Xiaopeng, ideal, NIO, Nezha, Zero, Weima and other new forces were better than the same period last year and month-on-month, especially Xiaopeng, ideal, NIO and Nezha exceeded 10,000 vehicles. Zero running, Weimar and other second-tier enterprises have also quickly reached monthly sales of more than 5000 vehicles. Among the mainstream joint venture brands, North and South Volkswagen wholesale 19498 new energy vehicles, accounting for 46 per cent of the mainstream joint venture. Volkswagen's firm electric transformation strategy is beginning to bear fruit. It is also excellent for SAIC GM and brilliance BMW to sell more than 5000 new energy vehicles, while other joint ventures and luxury brands still need to be launched.

Tesla's sales are also eye-catching. The vehicles produced by Tesla's Shanghai factory are also exported to Eurasian markets. In most months, Tesla's production and sales figures in China also include the number of exports. According to the data of the first two quarters, Tesla will use most of his vehicles for export in the first two months of each quarter, but in the last month of each quarter, most of these vehicles will be delivered to the domestic market. In September, for example, Tesla sold 56006 new cars in China in September, of which 52153 were delivered domestically. In November, Tesla China wholesale sold 52859 vehicles and exported 21127, accounting for about 40 per cent of exports.

In the December sales data, Tesla's sales data surged 70847 vehicles, exceeding most analysts' expectations, while exports were only 245 vehicles, while domestic sales were 70602. This also means that Tesla spends almost all of his December sales on the local market, as the shorter transportation cycle creates better conditions for December sales data. The bad news may be that if Tesla's delivery arrangement remains the same, the quantity delivered to the domestic market in the next two months will be limited.

Tesla released its annual sales figures for 2021 on January 3. For the whole year, 930400 vehicles were produced and 936172 electric vehicles were delivered, up from 499647 in the previous year. In the global auto industry, where there is a serious shortage of chips in the same period, car production is expected to increase by only about 1 per cent compared with 2020. Tesla rewrote some MCU control software in a few weeks to solve the adaptation to different chips, and the vehicle can work normally when the chip is replaced. At the same time, Tesla also streamlined the number of processors on the platform to reduce the impact of chips on production as much as possible.

Pure electricity sales can compete with Tesla, or only Hongguang MINI EV. Its starting price is only 30,000 yuan, which is a relatively different kind of sales data. Hongguang MINI EV has inadvertently become a model sought after by manufacturers. In terms of other brand exports, the export of new energy vehicles maintained growth in December. SAIC exported 5716 new energy vehicles for passenger cars, 637 Geely cars, 563 BYD cars and 203 Great Wall cars. Tesla as a global brand, all production and sales are based on the global market considerations. The market pattern formed by it is not very long in terms of time, unlike the traditional automobile industry which has a hundred years of accumulation and needs the support of the traditional dealer network. It is obvious that the new domestic forces will follow its approach, so this will be a new competition, although for now, there are no strong competitors in the short term.
