AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)01/26 Report--

After the European version of Volkswagen Passat (Maiteng) stopped production in Europe, the American version of Volkswagen Passat "Passat" can not withstand the suspension of production. According to foreign media reports, the American version of Volkswagen Passat "Passat" has gone offline at the Chattanooga factory in Tennessee, which also means that the production of the American version of Volkswagen Passat "Passat" has officially become history.

According to previous reports, Passat has been the first to announce that it will not be updated in the United States and will withdraw from the US market before 2023 because of poor sales. Volkswagen has advanced the time to December 2021, but although the hatchback Passat has stopped production, the Passat travel version, Arteon and Arteon hunting version will continue to be produced. In China, these three models correspond to the Azure, CC and CC hunting cars.

It is also reported that the Chattanooga factory in Tennessee has produced a total of 800000 Volkswagen Passat, and the last one is the 2022 Passat limited edition model. After the model is officially discontinued, Volkswagen's Tennessee Chattanooga is expected to switch to electric cars and produce the ID.4 all-electric SUV this year. The plant will also serve as a testing center for electric vehicles in Volkswagen's North American operations. However, the factory is not completely abandoning the production of fuel cars, Volkswagen Atlas (the domestic equivalent of Tuen) SUV and the sedan version of the model will still come from the factory.

Passat is not only one of the most representative models of Volkswagen, but also the main intermediate car with a long history. Volkswagen Passat first entered the American market in 1974. Up to now, it has a history of 48 years and has sold more than 1.8 million cars in the United States.

Public data show that before 1990, Volkswagen Passat was not sold under this name, but under the names of "Dasher" and "Quantum". It was not until the launch of the third generation model in 1990 that Passat had the name "Passat" in the United States. In 2011, the "special supply version" Passat for the United States and China entered the market respectively.

In terms of sales volume, 2012 was the most glorious moment for Passat sales in the United States, where a total of 117000 Passat vehicles were sold. However, with the popularity of SUV, Passat sales began to decline. By 2021, Passat annual sales were only 24400, and the continued low sales volume has also become the main reason for the suspension of production of the model. In contrast, the sales of Maiteng and Passat cars in the domestic market are relatively ideal. In the domestic market, the prototype car of FAW-Volkswagen Maiteng is the European version of Passat, while the prototype car of SAIC-Volkswagen Passat is the American version of Passat. According to statistics, the annual sales of FAW-Volkswagen Maiteng and SAIC-Volkswagen Passat in the Chinese market in 2021 are 133980 and 131291 respectively.

With the discontinuation of European version of Volkswagen Passat and American version of Volkswagen Passat "Passat", domestic versions of Volkswagen Passat and Maiteng may become "special version" models. There has also been media speculation that the European version and the American version of the Volkswagen Passat hatchback will be replaced by Volkswagen Aero B pure electric models in the future. Industry insiders pointed out that Volkswagen Aero B looks like the "pure electric version" of Volkswagen Passat and is expected to replace the vacancy after Passat discontinued production in the future. At present, the pure electric version of Aero B test spy photos have been revealed, the car will launch a hatchback and travel version, of course, so far, officials have not revealed whether the new car will eventually be named after Volkswagen Aero B, and is expected to be named ID in the future. The name of the family and how it will eventually be named have yet to be announced by officials. As for the launch date, the car is expected to go on sale by the end of this year or early 2023.
