According to the recall announcement, vehicles within the recall area may enter the gateway control module if a large amount of liquid is accidentally spilled on the rear seat because the gateway control module is located in a lower position below the rear seat. resulting in a short circuit inside the gateway control module, which further leads to various internal errors. The gateway control module has a security design. If unreliable signals are detected, the engine, gearbox and steering system will enter the protection mode, and the gearbox clutch will be disconnected, resulting in power interruption while the vehicle is running. Increase the possibility of accidents, there are security risks.

In view of the above defects, FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Co., Ltd. will entrust Audi authorized dealers to install the protective shield of the gateway control module for vehicles within the recall range free of charge to prevent liquid from entering, so as to eliminate safety risks.

According to the concern of the auto industry, Audi owners actually reported this situation as early as a few years ago. Nanjing Metropolis Daily previously reported that Mr. Wang bought an Audi Q5L on June 26, 2019, and the vehicle suddenly failed to start on October 27. After testing by maintenance personnel at the 4S store, it was found that liquid had seeped into the back seat, causing the vehicle to malfunction. Mr. Wang admitted that he did pour half a bottle of drink on the back seat, but questioned the quality of the vehicle itself. According to the description of many car owners, the reason for this recall is basically the same as that of FAW-Volkswagen. When the drink is accidentally spilled on the seat, it may enter the gateway control module, resulting in a short circuit inside the gateway control module. And may lead to a series of failures, while 4S stores generally believe that the failure is caused by man-made, car owners need to repair the vehicle at their own expense, the cost is about 12000 yuan. With the release of the recall announcement, it means that the defects that have plagued car owners for a long time have finally been resolved.

This recall Audi Q5L is the second generation of Audi Q5 domestic extended model, in 2108 domestic market sale, the current guiding price of 38.78-498000 yuan, the end market has a discount range of about 7-100000 yuan. In May 2021, the mid-term modified Audi Q5L was officially put on the market with a price of 39.68-487000 yuan. Although it is a medium-term modified model, but the overall change is not big, mainly to adjust the configuration to achieve the improvement of product power, and the final price is higher than the old model. At present, the above product defects have not occurred in the new models.

According to the FIFA data, the Audi A6L sold the most in 2021, with a cumulative sales of 151023 vehicles, while Audi Q5L ranked second with 127556 vehicles. Another model with more than 100000 vehicles is the Audi A4L, with a total sales of 121767 vehicles in 2021.

The main competitors of Audi Q5L are Mercedes-Benz GLCs and BMW X3, of which Mercedes-Benz GLC sold 135884 vehicles and BMW X3 sold 129728 vehicles, both higher than Audi Q5L. Of course, Audi Q5L is more likely to be related to the shortage of chips, the production capacity of related models is limited, and its terminal discount may shrink.

In addition to Audi Q5L, FAW-Volkswagen also recalled some imported Audi SQ5 vehicles from April 14, 2021 to December 3, 2021, a total of 368 vehicles.

In view of the above defects, FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Co., Ltd. will entrust Audi authorized dealers to install the protective cover of the gateway control module for the vehicles within the recall range free of charge; for imported SQ5 vehicles produced before August 28, 2021, the dealers will also carry out glue sealing in the areas of insufficient sealing at the bottom of the body free of charge to prevent liquid from entering, so as to eliminate safety risks.

It is particularly noted that the recall was carried out in the context of the defect investigation initiated by the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration. Affected by the investigation, FAW-Volkswagen decided to take recall measures to eliminate safety risks.
