AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)02/04 Report--
According to foreign media reports, the top auto safety regulator in the United States issued an announcement that Tesla is carrying out the largest recall in history in the United States, with the number reaching 817000, covering four models owned by Tesla. It is understood that the recall covers Model S/Model X from 2021 to 2022, Model 3 from 2017 to 2022 and Model Y from 2020 to 2022.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Tesla recalled the vehicles because the seat belt warning tone may not sound when the vehicle starts and the driver does not fasten his seat belt. Tesla will fix this problem in the form of OTA, and because the US Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) believes that the lack of seatbelt tone is a safety risk, Tesla cannot solve this problem just through software updates, but must include it in the official safety recall. However, if the OTA cannot solve the problem, it means that the car owner may have to drive to Tesla to deal with it after sale.
Tess has launched several recalls in the past two months. At the end of 2021, the US Road Safety Administration said Tesla recalled more than 475000 Model 3 and Model S electric vehicles in the US to address issues such as rearview cameras and trunks that increase the risk of collisions. Specifically, the recall will cover about 356000 Model 3s for 2017-2020 and about 119000 Model S for 2014-2021. Subsequently, the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration announced that Tesla decided to recall some of the imported Model S from January 21, 2015 to November 18, 2020, totaling 19697 vehicles. And part of the imported Model 3 from October 4, 2018 to November 20, 2019, totaling 35836 vehicles. And part of the domestic Model 3 with production dates from October 14, 2019 to December 27, 2020, totaling 144208 vehicles.
It is understood that for Tesla Model 3, the reason for the recall is that the rearview camera cable harness may be damaged due to the opening and closing of the suitcase lid, thus preventing the rearview camera image from being displayed. For Tesla Model S, the recall was due to a problem with the front hood latch that could cause the trunk to open without warning and hinder the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. NHTSA said Tesla was not aware of any collisions, injuries or deaths related to problems with his Model 3 and Model S cars. From the point of view of the recall, it is basically consistent with the problems in the US market.
On Tuesday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that Tesla will recall 53822 electric cars, including four models on sale. The recalled Tesla has a "rolling parking" function, according to the recall document, which allows the vehicle to travel at speeds of up to 5.6mph at a speed of up to 5.6mph as long as the driver sets the vehicle to "fully self-driving" mode. pass through an intersection where parking is required in all four directions, in violation of US road traffic regulations. NHTSA points out that the vehicle does not stop completely and the risk of collision may increase when passing the crossroads. NHTSA said Tesla will perform wireless software updates and disable the "scrolling stop" function. It is understood that the recall covers Model S and Model X from 2016 to 2022, Model 3 from 2017 to 2022 and Model Y from 2020 to 2022. Recently, Tesla frequently launched recalls in the US market, whether it will further affect the Chinese market, we still need to wait for the disclosure of information from the relevant departments.
Product problems do not seem to affect Tesla's market performance. According to the financial report, Tesla's total revenue in 2021 was $53.823 billion (about 340.193 billion yuan), an increase of 71 percent over the same period last year, including $17.719 billion (111.995 billion yuan) in the fourth quarter of 2021, an increase of 65 percent over the same period last year. In fiscal year 2021, net profit was $5.519 billion (about 34.88 billion yuan), an increase of 665 percent over the same period last year, including a net profit of $2.321 billion (about 14.67 billion yuan) in the fourth quarter of 2021, an increase of 760 percent. In other words, this is Tesla's second year of profitability, and it is also the most profitable year since Tesla was founded. In terms of sales, Tesla delivered a total of 936000 new cars worldwide in 2021, an increase of 87% over the same period last year, making it the highest brand in electric vehicle sales in the world.
However, as a US carmaker, Tesla does not seem to be favored by US President Joe Biden. It is understood that since Biden came to power, Biden has increased its new energy vehicle policy many times, believing that electric vehicles are essential to the US economy and climate goals, but has kept quiet about Tesla's position in the electric car market. On Thursday, Biden released a video of a conversation with GM Chairman and CEO Mary Barra, saying "he is pleased to hear Barra's statement." and said that companies like GM and Ford produce more electric cars in the United States than ever before.
The move caused dissatisfaction with Musk, who commented on Twitter, satirizing the White House's deliberate neglect of Tesla's leadership in the electric car industry. Later, Tesla fans bought an advertising space in New York's Times Square, showing Musk's "crossword puzzle" to US President Joe Biden in a recent tweet: "begins with T, ends with A, and ends with ESL."
Tesla delivered more than 936000 vehicles worldwide in 2021, while GM sold only nearly 480000 electric vehicles, most of them in China, according to official figures. In the United States, the company had to recall its Chevrolet Bolt electric car because of the risk of battery fire. In the fourth quarter of last year, the company sold only 26 electric vehicles, including 25 Bolt and one GMC electric Hummer pickup.
