According to the recall notice, the recall involves domestic Model 3 and Model Y. Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will recall some domestic Model 3 (12003) and Model Y (14044) electric vehicles produced from December 28, 2020 to January 15, 2022, totaling 26047.

The reason for the recall is that the electronic expansion valve of the heat pump of some vehicles will move slightly when it is positioned, and the software (2021.44 to 2021.44.30.6) has no correction function, which may cause the valve to partially open, the heat pump compressor to stop working and the heating function in the vehicle to fail for a long time. Under the above conditions, especially when the temperature outside the vehicle is below 10 degrees below zero, the operation of the windshield defrosting system can not achieve the defrosting effect stipulated by the relevant national laws and regulations, and the decline of defrosting function has a negative impact on the driver's field of vision, thus increasing the possibility of collision when the vehicle is driving in cold weather, and there is a safety hidden danger.

In view of the above defects, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will upgrade the software for the vehicles within the recall scope through the car remote upgrade (OTA) technology, so that users do not need to go to the store to complete the recall; for the vehicles that cannot be recalled through the car remote upgrade (OTA) technology, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will contact relevant users through Tesla service center to upgrade the software free of charge for the vehicles to eliminate security risks.

According to the recall announcement, the number of domestic Model 3 and Model Y models recalled by Tesla exceeded 26000, but most of the problems can be solved through OTA, that is, the recall is due to software problems, not hardware problems. In fact, in Tesla's recalls in the past, product defects were also resolved through OTA.

It is understood that some time ago, some owners of Tesla in North America and Canada also reflected the same fault mentioned above. it is reported that since January this year, the Canadian Transport Department has received a number of complaints one after another, and users said that their Tesla could not operate the air conditioner normally, especially in the cold environment of-10 ℃, the heat pump air conditioner did not heat, while Tesla also upgraded through OTA. On February 9, Tesla submitted a recall to the National Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA): Tesla will recall 26681 vehicles in the United States due to software errors that may lead to a decline in windshield defrosting performance, including Model S and Model X manufactured in 2021-2022, Model 3 in 2017-2022 and Model Y in 2020-2022.

Earlier, on June 26, 2021, Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. recalled 35665 imported Model 3 electric vehicles produced between January 12, 2019 and November 27, 2019, and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recalled some domestic Model 3 electric vehicles produced between December 19, 2019 and June 7, 2021, totaling 211256 vehicles. Recall a total of 38599 domestic Model Y electric vehicles produced during the period from January 1, 2021 to June 7, 2021. The solution is also to solve defects and eliminate security risks through OTA.

The recall is due to the problem of the vehicle active cruise control system, which can easily cause the driver to activate the active cruise function mistakenly in the following situations: when the vehicle is in D gear, the driver tries to switch gear again by poking the right control lever; when the vehicle makes a sharp turn, when the driver mistakenly touches and pokes the right control lever, etc. After the active cruise control is mistakenly activated, if the cruising speed set by the vehicle is not the current speed, and the current speed is lower than the set speed, the vehicle will accelerate to the set speed, resulting in a sudden increase in vehicle speed, which will affect the driver's expectation and lead to miscalculation of vehicle handling. In extreme cases, it may lead to vehicle collision and safety risks.

According to the data, Tesla's sales volume in the domestic market has reached record highs many times. According to previous reports, Tesla delivered a total of 936000 new cars worldwide in 2021, an increase of 87% over the same period last year, of which the Tesla Shanghai Super Factory delivered 484000 vehicles, an increase of 235% over the same period last year, accounting for 51.7% of Tesla's total global delivery volume, making Tesla the first single market in the world. In terms of specific models, Tesla Model 3 delivered 150890 new cars in the Chinese market, while Tesla Model Y delivered 169853 new cars.
