AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)02/19 Report--

On February 18, Beijing Mercedes-Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in accordance with the requirements of the regulations on the recall of defective Automobile products and the measures for the implementation of the regulations on the recall of defective Automobile products.

Beijing Mercedes-Benz Motor Co., Ltd. will recall a total of 10104 EQC electric vehicles manufactured from November 30, 2018 to December 15, 2021 from August 15, 2022.

According to the recall notice, the recall is due to manufacturing deviation of the electric drive module, and the cooling system in the electric drive module of some vehicles within the scope of the recall may not be sealed enough, resulting in coolant leakage. If the coolant seeps into the motor, the insulation resistance of the high voltage system may be reduced after long-term use, and in extreme cases the vehicle may not be able to start. Coolant leakage does not meet the sealing requirements of the cooling system in the relevant national mandatory standards. under extreme conditions, the output power of the electric drive module of the vehicle will be reduced, resulting in safety risks.

In view of the above defects, Beijing Mercedes-Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. will check the production sequence number of the electric drive module for the vehicles within the recall range by authorizing the dealer, and if the production sequence number is within the affected range, the improved electric drive module assembly will be replaced free of charge to eliminate safety risks.

In response to the above recall, according to a number of media reports, Mercedes-Benz said on the recall of EQC: this is its voluntary recall in the Chinese market. As to why the recall cannot be launched until August, the electric drive modules involved in Mercedes-Benz's response to this recall are produced by overseas factories of relevant suppliers, affected by a variety of uncertainties in the current overseas market, including the epidemic. The current stock of the parts is temporarily unable to meet the inventory of parts that are recalled immediately. To this end, we are actively coordinating the supply of accessories with relevant accessories suppliers to ensure that efficient and high-quality recalls are launched on time on August 15. However, Mercedes-Benz also stressed that the current spare parts reserve can meet the daily warranty service, and before the formal implementation of the recall, we have the ability to ensure that the corresponding electric drive modules of our customers' vehicles will be replaced in time in the event of relevant failures, to ensure that passengers can drive safely. In addition, Mercedes-Benz also said that after the implementation of the recall, the electric drive module involved will be extended from the existing warranty period of 8 years and 160000 km (limited to first come) to a 10-year warranty period of 250000 km (limited to first come).

In fact, before the recall, a number of owners reported frequent motor failures in their Mercedes-Benz EQC electric vehicles. A joint statement issued by owners of Mercedes-Benz EQC on issues related to a large number of motor failures was posted online on January 21, which showed that Mercedes-Benz EQCs had one or more electric failures and were required to replace the motor or power battery. According to the feedback of the owner, 1-2 months before the motor failure of the Mercedes-Benz EQC, the central control screen indicates the "filling coolant" pattern after the vehicle starts. After opening the front engine hatch, the coolant is obviously reduced. Found that "filling coolant" prompt, go to the 4S store but can not find out the reason, the final treatment is to continue to fill the coolant. However, the injected coolant infiltrated into the motor, resulting in motor failure, so that the vehicle can not start normally.

Then Mercedes-Benz official responded: after a preliminary match with the inspection / maintenance records in our system: at present, most of the customers' vehicles have been tested or repaired and put into normal use; there are individual customers whose vehicles have been repaired and waiting for customers to pick up at the dealer. In addition, Mercedes-Benz is also contacting these customers one by one to understand their concerns and respond to them in a targeted manner. Mercedes-Benz also said that it is studying customer feedback on car use and will work out specific product optimization plans on this basis.

Although Mercedes-Benz extended the warranty for the electric drive modules involved in the recall "from the existing warranty period of 8 years and 160000 km to 10 years and 250000 km (limited to first arrival)", from January 1, 2022, the new version of the provisions on liability for repair, replacement and return of Family Automobile products has been officially implemented. The new regulations show that the power batteries and driving motors of new energy vehicles are included in the category of core components. Specifically, the new regulations stipulate that within 7 days from the date of validity of the three packages, if the engine, transmission, power battery, driving motor or its main parts need to be replaced due to quality problems, the seller shall change or return the car free of charge according to the choice of consumers. If the engine, transmission, power battery and driving motor cannot be used normally because of their quality problems, the seller shall replace or return them within the validity period of the three packages.

The car recall reflects the safety risks caused by defects in product development. The auto industry pays attention to the statistics from the 2021 vehicle recall released by the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration. Mercedes-Benz launched a total of 17 recalls in China last year, recalling a total of 2781204 passenger vehicles. Less than two months after this year, Mercedes-Benz launched another recall. The auto industry is concerned that manufacturers launching car recalls means manufacturers have a responsible attitude towards products and consumers. However, frequent vehicle recalls will not only make consumers question vehicle safety issues, but also make users lose confidence in brand products.
