AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)02/20 Report--
Time back to October 13, 2020, Audi and FAW Group signed the "Audi FAW High-end New Energy vehicle Cooperation Project Memorandum of understanding", announcing the establishment of a new energy joint venture between the two sides. On January 19, 2021, China FAW Board, Audi Management Board and Volkswagen Group Supervisory Board officially signed a contract and announced that they had officially settled in Changchun. On March 25, 2021, Audi FAW New Energy vehicle Co., Ltd. was established, marking the birth of Audi's third joint venture in China. Tianyan Cha shows that Audi FAW New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd. has a registered capital of 5.267 billion yuan, of which Audi and Volkswagen own 60% of the company, and FAW Group holds 40% of the shares, which means that Audi and Volkswagen enjoy the dominance of the company.
Following the establishment of the joint venture company in Changchun, Audi FAW New Energy vehicle project was officially launched. According to the information released on the official website of Jilin Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the project is Audi's first production base for pure electric models in China and is located in Changchun Automobile Economic and technological Development Zone. the project covers a total area of 2.46 million square meters and has a planned annual production capacity of 150000 vehicles. Audi FAW new energy vehicle project is scheduled to be completed in December 2024, when completed, it will put into production three models based on PPE high-end pure electric vehicle platform. It includes three pure electric models, B+SUV e-tron, B+SAV e-tron and C Lim LWB e-tron, which correspond to Q6L e-tron (eQ5), Q6L e-tron Sportback (eQ6) two pure electric SUV, and pure electric car A6L e-tron.
The PPE platform is one of the latest electric vehicle platforms owned by Volkswagen Group, jointly developed by Audi and Porsche. Data show that the platform supports BMel D-class models, that is, medium-sized to large cars, and the first pure electric model based on the PPE platform is the A6L e-tron.
As we all know, Audi A6L is the core product of Audi brand in China, and Audi FAW named its first production car A6L e-tron shows the importance of its status. At the same time, although the name of the A6L e-tron is the same as that of the fuel version, the A6L e-tron based on the PPE platform is not a petrol-to-electric model. At the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, the Audi A6L e-tron concept car was unveiled as a medium and large pure electric vehicle with 4960/1960/1440mm in length, width and height and 2950mm in wheelbase. It will be equipped with a front and rear dual motor system with a comprehensive power of 476hp, with a maximum torque of 800Nm and an annual output of 150000 vehicles. Relevant data show that the A6L e-tron will have three power configurations after mass production, the entry level will be equipped with 83kWh battery pack, rear wheel drive, CATL mileage 550km. The 100kWh battery pack model will be divided into rear-drive and four-wheel drive models, with CATL mileage of 600km.
Previously, Audi has introduced a number of e-tron series electric vehicles, including e-tron and e-tron sportback (MLB evo platform), Q2L e-tron (MEB platform) three pure electric domestic vehicles. At the 2021 Guangzhou Auto Show, FAW-Audi unveiled Q4 e-tron (MEB platform) electric vehicle, while SAIC Audi unveiled Q5 e-tron (MEB platform) electric vehicle. However, sales of models such as the e-tron in the domestic market are not optimistic.
When the new energy vehicle market is in the direction of Skyworth, Audi has to change and transform. At present, Audi already has three joint ventures in China, including FAW-Volkswagen, SAIC Audi and Audi FAW. Audi has more dominance in Audi FAW, which will focus on the development of new energy vehicles. According to Audi's new energy strategy, Audi will invest 35 billion euros by 2025, its pure electric models will reach 20, and about 1/3 of the cars delivered worldwide will come from new energy vehicles; starting from 2026, Audi's new models launched worldwide will all be pure electric models; by 2033, Audi will phase out the last batch of internal combustion engine models and comprehensively accelerate the brand electrification transformation.
As the largest new energy vehicle market in the world, many car companies have put forward new energy targets for 2025, including 3.2 million Great Wall cars, 1 million Changan cars and 900000 Geely cars. Ideal car hopes to gain 20% market share, while Toyota, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, GM and so on have announced the process of electrification. Of course, for these car companies, to a large extent, they are not willing to enter the new energy vehicle market on a large scale, but this is something that has to be done. When new energy becomes the trend of the industry, it may be eliminated if it is not transformed.
